I have an older ipad with the latest ios installed running cab 3. It very frequently acts up such as trying to input an engine and one of the numerals is oranged out meaning I can't use it. I can still access the locomotive from the roster but that can be quite a PITA. I don't know if it is just me and if I am doing something wrong or if it is a common problem. It being almost Black Friday it will be the time to upgrade/ replace it if need be but I'd rather spend the $$ on more stuff. I will take pictures next time this happens.

There are a bunch of factors.
1. The app does still have some bugs, and orange icons, not accessible, is one of those. Did you try it on another device to verify, like your phone? I will say Lionel technically has only optimized the app for phones so far, not iPads, but in general they work fine.
You can send an e-mail to TalktoUs@lionel.com and ask them if it is a known issue. Then you will know it's not your device.
2. I run it on an older iPad mini-4, I picked up from Amazon for 100.00 (their renewed program). Works fine on that older iPad.
3. Did you try reinstalling the app on the iPad (basic step when apps misbehave).
Lionel is your first resource on this to verify if there is a bug. They are not finished fixing all the issues in the app.
That way you don't waste time trying to troubleshoot a known issue.
If you do send them a message, be very detailed. (iPad version, iOS version, what exact screen in app, and buttons, etc.).
