I take it the old Legacy CAB 2s will not wifi to the new Base 3? I kind of like the CAB 2. I have...4 of them and 2 bases plus a 993 for charging. I guess I'm safe without a Base 3 for awhile?

Cab-2s cannot address wi-fi with any base as far as I know. The cab-2 can address locos directly through the Base 3 (or Legacy Base) or one can use the Base 3's wi-fi to address locos via the forthcoming Cab 3 app is my understanding.

The date at the Lionel Store website is when it's available from the store. It always has been this way.

The CAB 2 works great with the Base 3. I believe the CAB 1L does as well. The wifi module with the Legacy system is so your Phone app can connect to your existing Legacy base. The Base 3 handles wifi to phone on its own now.

And to add to this, the new CAB3 app will not work with a BASE2 & WiFi module. The CAB3 app will only work with the BASE3 in CAB3L mode and directly with up to 3 Bluetooth engines in CAB3B mode.

That is probably why they call it the CAB 3 app

Initially, Dave did say that the CAB 3 app would work with a BASE2 & Wi-Fi module. That changed later on to "maybe in the future".
I dont recall that. But don't they still have the previous wifi app available ? I always found the DCS app worked better to control Lionels trains anyway

Yes, the iCab app is still up on the Apple store but that does leave a big question mark for the future development of that app and what options those users will have if or when that app goes defunct due to no support.
Thanks for everyone answering my question about the cab3 app. Also a legacy set went for less than $600.00 at cabin fever auctions this week. I wonder if the fever for them has been broken or if this was a one off. Sometimes prices at auctions can fluctuate wildly.

That will kill the utility of the Lionel WiFi on the Legacy system. The only thing I use it for is the LCS on an iPad, but I'm wondering if future LCS upgrades will only work with the BASE3...
