The turnout is unpowered. There is a sliding bar that could be powered with a 3rd party controller, or spring, or cable, or what have you. I have found that if you are just using it to make a closed dogbone with one vehicle the weight of the unit should throw the switch when it gets to the closed end. So one time it turns left the next time right and so on. So the answer is you get what you want depending on how much work you want to put in.
