Thank you for allowing me to join your community.  My questions will be very basic to get started.

Background:  I am 63 and have not had a train since I was about 10.  It appears a lot has changed.  I now have a grandson that has cerebral palsy and he has difficulty with physical things.  He is about to turn 9.  At Christmas this past year he got a small plastic toy train under the tree and he loved it!  I decided that I would build him a reasonable train using Lionel trains because these he would see better and be able to hold, etc.

So, I have built a table (5’ X 9&rsquo and have a layout in mind.  I will be using MTH track.

My first question now becomes electrical hook-up.  It’s can’t be that difficult, but I cannot seem to find a good reference on electrical wiring.  Is there a good book or reference you can recommend to get a novice started in the right direction?  My goal is to get a basic train rolling and turn the tables, track, train, etc over to my grandson and his father so that they can enjoy building up the set together.  I therefore need flexibility and expandability in wiring the system.

Suggestions?

Thanks

Ron;

First off, Welcome to the forum.

For a small layout like you are making a single pair of wires to the track from the Transformer will suffice.

A pair probably came with the Set if you bought one.

You may be aware there are many more good makers of Trains out there that can mix or match with Lionel today.

Just follow the instructions with the Transformer and you should be fine.

If you got an MTH set it's Red to Red and Black to Black all the way and you are done.

Feel free to look up my email in my profile if you have specific questions.
