Battery for MTH PS2

Hi, I recently purchased an MTH loco with A PS2 9v system. I boughta rechargable 8.4 V battery, but upon testing it it only held a 5.6 Vcharge. I put in my recharger, but when the full charged light came on the battery read 9.5V. Is this too much charge for the PS2 board?

No, that voltage will be fine. I typically use the Tenergy 240 mah low self discharge nimh batteries.
