This is my layout in the barracks!

I have more components on the way (Okinawa shipping, grr) to fit the battery under the hood, but I'm too excited not to post. The end state will have the power supply all plug-and-play, no permanent modifications required. Lionel makes it super easy too, considering the rollers are attached by one simple screw.

I don't know what it would cost to build this layout in FasTrack, but I have under $250 into EVERYTHING on the table. Track was less then one roll of filament ($25).

Shout-out to MikeH for the RS3 - an absolute pleasure to do business with, can't recommend enough.

I wasn't sure to post this here or Lionchief, sorry if the mods prefer it there.

FROM THE MODERATORS:
You are probably going to post a lot of videos here about this project. Please look at this thread. It will show you how to EMBED the videos, instead of just pasting the URL into your post. We embedded this one for you.

Well Joe, it's all about compromises. Alot of people can look past a 3rd rail; I can look past a battery.

This RS3 is pretty difficult to hide a battery in; even so, a LiPo about 1/2 inch shorter lengthwise would probably have fit under the hood. If I was willing to lose sound, the fuel tank would be quite appropriate. A GP7, let alone a steamer, would be no issue.

And there's always the trailing car or dummy locomotive options.
