Another way to embed a video is by using the same method as shown in Rich's original post, but using the "copy link" button under the share tab on the original video, and pasting the link into the "general" tab in the insert/edit media button on the forum post. This method will work for mobile devices, and is the method I have always used to embed YouTube videos here.

Kevin, I cannot imagine trying to do anything on this forum with a phone. I've tried with my iPhone, and I find that the screen is too small, the menus are too hard to get to and reading anything is just plain frustrating. The writers of the software for this forum have recognized that, which is why all the features available to people using a computer or a tablet aren't available to those using a phone. Evidently embedding a video is one of them. I don't know...I've never tried to do embed a video with a phone.

Embedding a video here is just a few clicks, if you are using a computer or a tablet. Nothing has changed there. The instructions in this thread are for those members using this forum on a PC, a MAC, a laptop, or a tablet.

Jon, those videos with the blue border are videos uploaded directly from a member's computer, using the "Add Attachments" function.

I have tried to upload videos directly from my computer but have found that the limitation on file size restricts me to videos of just a few seconds.  Am I doing something wrong, or is it an intentional limit?  Otherwise I assume I would have to embed longer videos from Youtube.

The length of a video you can upload directly here is dependent on the amount of compression used on the video file. If you are uploading directly from your phone or camera without any additional editing or processing, the video is not compressed very much. If you run the video through a processor (there are hundreds available) you can choose a higher compression level and make the video file smaller.

However, as in everything, there’s no such thing as a free lunch. There is an inverse relationship between compression and quality. More compression equals less quality.

I would suggest you take GRJ’s advice and set up a YouTube channel. There are no size or time limits and your video will be seen by more people.

Nice layout. I like it.

Thank you RoyBoy. Built about 14 years ago in my living room during the housing crunch. My brother in law was out of work living in my guest house. He and my wife, Lynn are the artist. I did the track and electronics.

This 9 year old video has three tracks operating. The drop center flat cars are cheep Lionel. My wife painted them and decaled CAT and sequencial numbering.

Rank tech amatuer here - I have difficulty getting videos that I take off of my iphone 13 to the computer using a chord directly to my iMac. As is, they won't upload to the forum nor even go out in emails for some reason. I must assume they are 'too large'?    Are there instructions on how to offload videos to the Forum from our phones?

I've started trying to take much shorter clips in hopes of success to no avail.

Thanks
