For all you MTH Proto 1 and 2 buffs, remember to trade in your rechargeable batteries for the ORIGINAL, SAFE, and PERMANENT BCR's (Battery Conponent Replacements) in order to eliminate potentially expensive repairs due to starting your engines with low/ dead batteries!

Now an LLC, J and W Electronics, manufacturer of the BCR, is currently owned by John and Linda Gettys of York, PA. If you have attended any of the York, PA TCA meets in the last few years you have met us; we had been helping Wayne Renga, owner and inventor of the BCR, with the business before his untimely passing. The quality and service that Wayne had upheld will not change; pricing, as well as quantity specials, remain the same. Questions on pricing/orders? Please direct them to JandWElectronics@ yahoo.com, as our website is currently being updated. You may also call 717-417-2820 for more personalized service. Happy railroading!!

Hi - which PS1 batteries are eligible for trade-in and upgrade to BCR? What is the cost to send back and have it replaced, or are is it a straight trade offer?

I have both old non-working original white PS1 batteries, and modern green battery replacements. Would like to replace them all with BCRs if you'll take them.

All MTH PS1's take the original BCR, as do early PS 2's.  Later (2005 on) PS2's were being changed to a 3 volt system, and use the BCR 2's.    Most train owners install the BCR's themselves, as it only entails removal (and disposal) of the original rechargeable battery and putting the BCR in its' place.    Place the BCR equipped engine on the track powered to at least 10 volts for 1 minute, and you're ready to run.    The BCR can sit in an engine for years without worry... just restart your engine as previously mentioned.

As the rechargeable batteries are of no use to us, there are no trade ins.    Please call 717-417-2820 for pricing and ordering.  Looking forward to hearing from you!

I'm confused - reading your first opening statement here you said "For all you MTH Proto 1 and 2 buffs, remember to trade in your rechargeable batteries for the ORIGINAL, SAFE, and PERMANENT BCR's (Battery Conponent Replacements) in order to eliminate potentially expensive repairs..."

Maybe I missed something?

Its' simple, they make and sell the BCR1 and BCR2.  The term he used was just a figure of speech for "get rid of the battery before it goes bad and causes more issues" and buy a new BCR to replace it.

He clarified it pretty well in the second post.  They don't want your old batteries.  It's a simply swap, remove shell, pull out old battery, insert and plug in new BCR, replace shell, done.  Allow locomotive 1 minute on track to charge BCR before operating.

Yes, a better choice of words would have been "replace your old batteries" instead of "trade" them.   Sorry for the confusion.

But a little common sense should reveal that ANY of those old "rechargeable" batteries should be thrown in the trash, whether one replaces them in kind or with the BCR.
