There are rude and/or grumpy people in all endeavors. Part of life.
If there were a pill that I could take that would make my brain say no to model trains and yes to (choose one or more) Fourier transforms, American history, Shakespeare, Classical guitar, Constitutional law, vector calculus . . . I would take it. I spent four hours putting ladders on an old, worthless tender this evening, and the textbook is still closed!
Educate the kids. Use hobbies as educational tools. Save the passion until they are properly launched into society, as informed, civic-minded participants.
The kids are our future.
