Beacon NY Conrail Branch?

Was watching some 1989 Youtube videos...it seems Conrail had a fairly well-maintained and active branch with through train that left the mainline at Beacon and went up through Fishkill.  Now the line looks abandoned?  What happened?  I could understand if I was watching 1978 videos but it was 1989...rail traffic had stabilized or improved by this point in time.
