Hey Guys,

I'm about to pull the trigger on one of these Williams Switchers.  All of my cars are old Lionel, with hidden tabs and knuckle couplers.  Are there any known issues/problems with the compatibility or hook-up of the Williams couplers with the Lionel?

Thx,

Mannyrock

Thanks John.  I too have heard about the weak and breakable handrails.

But, aside from that, I haven't heard anything bad.

And, these diesels, NIB, run about $75 cheaper than anything comparable.

As long as I know about a defect well in advance, I can make a decisions to live with it.

Or, no kidding, when I buy one of these, I may just start out by breaking the darned things off, front and back, to be done with it.   After that, nothing to worry about.

Mannyrock,

These are neat little engines.  They pull well and look good as they trundle on their merry way.  Mine is in the Southern Railway livery and I am quite happy with it.  I have not incurred any coupler problems and in addition to hauling Williams rolling stock I also haul Lionel and MTH.  So far my flimsy plastic handrails are still intact but you can't let your guard down on them.  Very fragile indeed.  Pull that trigger!

I've had my William by Bachman 44 tonner for a few years now and have encountered no problems with it all all ( minus the delicate handrails ... which I broke and repaired with glue ).  My 44 tonner ( in Pennsy livery )  couples to everything K line, MTH, Atlas O, Modern Lionel, Williams, and  postwar Lionel included.  They are a great bang for the buck  Go ahead and pull that trigger

OK Guys,  I pulled the trigger.  It will arrive next week.  (While my wife is at work!)

I think now that I am going to look for a old metal frame from a large switcher (such as an NW-2), that has metal guardrails attached or built in to each end.  I will cut them off with an angle grinder, cut off the existing plastic guard rails, and mount the metal rails with screws.

So, , , , about all of those boxes of train junk that everybody says they have in the basement?
