I have historically set up in the Orange Hall for TCA. However, I want to consider one of the other halls to rent space and sell. I would like everyone's opinion as to the best hall in which to set up (e.g., where it's not just old relics but more of current day O gauge items AND where there is great attendance). Your input would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Orange hall is the one that has the most modern items. Otherwise, it is a mix. From my experience, you don't get to select a member hall - it is assigned. You are able to retain your same space show to show provided you attend consecutively.
Purple being another dealer hall has a lot of modern stuff. For the member halls. I would rate them (Where you might find the most modern selection) White, Red, and then Blue / Silver. But this can change meet to meet. Since it all depends on what the sellers end up bringing.

Agreed,....somewhat. Consecutive attendance not as critical as consecutive pay.
Yes, I agree that theory potentally matches my observations, but I was avoiding getting into the edge cases of the rules and enforcement and going more by the apparent spirit/intentions. Pretty much, if you are a regular seller and you want to take advantage of your regular customers being able to locate you easily every show, the EDTCA grants that to those who attend as sellers consecutively.
Jim I think you want the White hall, Some relics put a better percentage of new stuff. I sold there a couple of times and the only thing I brought back was relics. Also I find stuff there.

I would think, if you were selling "new" stuff, you would want to be in a hall the "public" could enter.
Clem, Joe et al....many thanks for your input. Jim
Jim,
I always noticed the silver hall to be the most crowded and there is a mix of products there. Folks who register there start there. My old AOL friends have tables in aisle A or 1 and they do quite well there.
A previously-made point about being in a public-access hall might be beneficial for selling newer stuff, but there's the sales tax filing to consider. IMO, most members visit all of the member halls, so exposure is more or less equal. I've found that it's easier to miss stuff in blue/silver due to the narrow aisles. Also, my impression is that people in blue and silver have been the slowest to realize that values have plummeted - if a member prices their stuff to sell, it should stand out. Personally, I'd recommend the white hall - room to move around and linger if something catches your eye.
Bottom line - if stuff is priced to sell, regardless of hall, it will.
You have more hours to sell in the Orange and many of the member hall traders go to Orange to buy after they sell. If you are a dealer selling newer stuff, Orange is the right place to be. If you are unloading or selling vintage stuff, members halls might be worth giving a try. Bigger volume and more hours to sell in dealer halls though.
Jim, assuming you are selling mostly modern stuff, I would go for the purple hall. JusTrains is a draw and its easy to get around in the purple hall. I typically don't buy older stuff, and I frequently ask myself if I want to put up with the crowded aisles in the other halls. If I do any of the other halls, it is most likely to be the blue and silver.

I think "best hall" is very personal. It all the years I've been going I've spent some money in each hall. The most $ spent in Orange (new TMCC engine, Miller Signs, Arttista figures, "quality" car models, scenic items, etc) and the White (mainly excl. condition postwar Flyer passenger cars).

Agree that Purple is a good place for newer stuff. However, original post mentioned having been in Orange before. Being in Purple means filing the sales tax forms.
Thanks to all for your valued input. One caveat: I want to avoid any hall where I have to fill out a sales tax form.

I have always had ;luck buying and there seems to be a better variety in the White and Red Halls. They seem to be less crowded or just wider aisles. Once you get you table assignment post it here to attract more visitors.
Jim, I know that I am late with this, but if you don't want the orange hall which you know is the best for new stuff, don't pick the purple hall. I would say the silver hall would be the best for you. But then I don't know much about York. I have only made the drive of 535 miles each way about 80 times. I believe 3 more times than Marty Fitz.
Thanks so much Eddie !!
Only 80 times Eddie? And you drive 535 miles? Man oh man...hat's off to you! Energizer Bunny!!!😉

Eddie, considering the fact that your 8-month winter in Maine is so cold, and your state bird is the Black Fly, have you ever considered moving to York?
Green Hall is wide open
