The MTH premier Mohwak from 2009 & 2010 are visual knockouts and pull like champs. The sound is ok.

The Lionel Mohawk mentoned by audi is a sweet sounding engine. It is also one of last of the Korean made engines from Lionel (if I remember correctly). Some folks think the Korean made stuff is better than that which comes from China.

That being said, the new Legacy model should be nice.

I guess it depends if they cut any corners on the detail. My legacy steamers do not even come close to detail of this "korean built", TMCC mohawk. Even though it was sitting on the store shelf 5 years before I got it, it worked.....right......out of the box!

My personal favorite, a tie between the MTH "special production" L4b "Super Mohawk" road numbers 3144 and 3148 (the NYC had only two of these locomotives with roller bearings on all axles AND roller bearing rods!), item numbers 20-3411-1 (3144) and 20-3410-1 (3148).

One of those models, which I have, would be tied with the Sunset/3rd Rail NYC L3b. Both models are VERY well detailed, with excellent pulling characteristics, and great sound (including 4-Chuffs per revolution and NYC whistle).

According the Lionel's shiping schedule, the Legacy Mohawk is still listed to ship Jan. '13 - which means next week.  Based on the Legacy Locos I have had recetnly, I expect it to be very good.  Definaetly worth waiing a few weeks for it to get out there and hear b efore deciding, unless, like me, you just have faith and plunge ahead.

I understand.  However, I will run my Mohawk in conventional using the ZW-L (thus getting most of the benefits lf Legacy control with out all the equipment or hassle).  The assignable number is not an issue with me.  The "legacy thingee" as I call that little orange plug-in-thing , will go in the coffee cup with all the others I have collected from other legacy locos, and the two blue ones from the ZW-L. Whatever the number assigned, it will be okay with me.

They are fixing it. It was posted on their facebook page some number of months ago, and I believe that info was relayed here as well. I want to say the numbers are 2791 and 2797, or somewhere thereabout.

Boilermaker 1,

Thanks for the update. I emailed Lionel after I saw the mistake in the catalog. I received the auto reply thanking me for my email. My computer spent a week in the shop earlier this month and I may have missed the announcement.

I have the 2770 and the 2793 Mohawks. They are my faviorite engines. If the cab number has been corrected I may need to look into getting one.

Hi Guys,

A friend of mine has the Lionel early version of the NYC L2a Mohawk.  RS 4 and           2 chuffs per revolution.  It truly is a beautiful model.  I love the whistle on it.  Several questions:

1.  Is it possible to modify the model so that it has 4 chuffs per revolution?

2.  Is it possible to change out the smoke unit to increase the smoke output and to have it so that it emits smoke while standing still?

Thanks in advance,

Steve
