Forgive me for not being a true 3RS guy, but I figured this would be the best place to ask.  I'm trying to "correct" the front end of my Lionel Reading T-1, including replacing the shameful coupler-ish blob on the front with something scale and correct.  So far my best option appears to be a Wiseman BS-004 or 005 (honestly I can't tell the difference between the two) coupler pocket, but where I'm truly lost is what kind of coupler to mount in it.  I don't intend to ever couple anything to it, so it's fine if it's completely static, so I don't want the best functioning Kadee or whatever is top dog coupler in terms of function, I want the part that looks most like a 1:1 coupler.  Can someone point me in the right direction?

No, it isn't a bad idea.  I'll offer a similar and hopefully slightly easier solution.  MTH has delivered many of their scale steam locomotives with a non-operating scale coupler that can be removed with a screw and replaced with a non-operating tinplate coupler.  The scale couplers that MTH has used in recent years even couple nicely with a Kadee 805.  See if MTH or your favorite service center can provide you with one.

It would be nice if I could adapt a set of those MTH couplers and possibly use the T-1 as a pusher.  Or I could mount a scale coupler on one end of a caboose for that purpose.

I guess I am confused.   Why would anyone want to put a none-functioning coupler on a pilot or anywhere else?    How can you  use the locomotive in generall service then?  What if you  need to do a runaround and move some cars from a facing point siding?

I want a dummy coupler because the cast-in "coupler" looks like it was designed by someone who had only heard of a jenney knuckle coupler by vague description.  I'm a hi-railer but I sure don't want a giant Lionel functional coupler on the front, but I want what's there to look like a coupler.  Good enough?
