I recently had an accident on the layout and the cow catcher on my 4-6-2 RK Atlantic broke off. MTH doesn't have a replacement part for it. I repaired it with some JB weld and it is holding well and now I need to sand and paint it. I would appreciate any recommendations for the proper paint to paint it? I don't do air brushing so any help would be appreciated.

RRADDICT2,
If it is a 4-6-2 engine it is a Pacific not an Atlantic. If it is a PRR engine you would want to use Brunswick Green, if it is any other road name then use flat locomotive black paint. It is OK f the match is not perfect as steam engines got bumped around a lot during their service life and were repaired sometimes carefully sometimes not so much.

All paint stores have a Reflective Paint Densitometer, that gets the paint codes. The paint clerk will place the locomotive under the Paint Densitometer, and measure the reflective light. The clerk can suggest a ready made paint in a spray can or brush on. He will be able to make you a quart can for about $9.00, but it can be latex or oil.
A quart can is the smallest can that they can make to keep the color correct. I use Acrylic Paint in the 2 FL. OS bottles from those big box art stores, about .89¢. for touch up work. If you have a major job, I go with automotive paint shop (Napa) or big box store. (Home Depot)
If you need flat black, you may already have it in your shop or stop by a hardware store.
Good Luck - Gary
I know this will sound "dumb" but I have used a black Expo marker to touch up my black steam engines.Nick

This is not a "Dumb" idea, it works. Those markers are sold in a lot of different colors.
