I just found a nice looking Atlas Dash 8 loco that I'd like to add to my collection (http://www.atlaso.com/odash840b1.htm).  When I went to the Atlas O website, it indicated that the piece shipped in 2004.

This would be my first Atlas piece and, other than eBay, I'm not sure where to go to look for it.  Are there larger dealers with good-sized Atlas inventories that someone might point me toward?  I have a feeling that the item I want might be very thinly traded at this point, so I may be faced with settling in for a good 10-year eBay search...

Thanks in advance for your help.

Your feelings are accurate. Specific older Atlas O pieces are a real needle in a haystack, in my experience. You may well conclude that it isn't a useful allocation of your time trying to find older Atlas O products.

In times past, Atlas O would periodically repeat production of many items, although that doesn't seem to be happening as frequently as before, as Atlas O's output seems to have dropped the past few years. Nonetheless, they still do it, as with their current release of RS-1s that were previously produced. There have been reports of repeat production of Dash 8s as well, although when and which road names I have not heard.

Well, there's always the OGR Forum for-sale listings!!!    I have one listing active now that has several Atlas-O jewels in MINT condition.  No Dash-9's... but a GP60M, GP60B, several Reading GP35's (powered and non-powered), an RS-1, and a couple of SW9 switchers!

Thanks for everyone's help so far.  I should have mentioned, in case someone has one, that I'm looking for the 3-rail Providence & Worcester model, both powered and dummy.

I agree that's it's not worth spending a lot of time on, but it didn't take too long to add it to the gazillion eBay searches I have going.  It may take a while, but one morning, I'll log on, and there it will be.

I should have thought of JD's Trains (AM Hobbies) myself.  He had the spot next to mine at York for several years running.  Good guy.

He is very reputable.

Well, now.  As I am still getting a feel for this forum, it hadn't occurred to me to search the For Sale forum.

I have indeed purchased the one that Al (Cape Code Northern) had listed.  What a great resource this is.

I'm still looking for the matching dummy, but at least now I'm on my way.  Thanks again for everyone's input and help.

Looking for an obscure Atlas O Tank car.  Saw one a year and 1/2 ago on da bay, none since.

Atlas - #8657 3rl or #9657 2rl,   Dow Chemical - 8K gallon tank car. This was originally listed in 2005 and I missed it. Pre ordered with LHS, he didn't order enough and didn't call me when they came in.  After that I didn't count on him.

If you want older issued locomotives, keep an eye on the OGR For-Sale sub-forum as well as eBay, especially for older Atlas engines.

I bought a new, old stock Reading unit from David, a week or two ago and am quite happy with it.  Similarly, I have sold two new older Santa Fe Atlas engines in the last couple of weeks, one here at OGR and one on eBay.

Great that you found one of your items so quickly. Since you are still getting used to the forum, just a thought here (if you don't already know this), you can post a 'Want To Buy' message in the 'Wanted To Buy' forum. If you don't get any replies after a couple weeks or a month or so I think you can re-post it and keep trying.
