I have a Santa Fe ABBA set older Lionel set but only 1 A unit has sound but it sounds very good.

I also have a Sunset ABB set but the aftermarket sound chip Railsounds that Lionel offers the aftermarket is not that good.

I wonder what is the best sounding, sound set in the market right now for a F7/9?? Considering if I can find an engine that has great sound that I can swap into the Sunset dummy would need to be TMCC compatible to match the powered units control.

Anything on the market right now from Lionel with a dummy B with quality sound?

The Santa Fe F7 offered around 2004 has the best horn in it I have ever heard. Will send chills up your spine.

I would see if you could purchase that sound set.

J Daddy, as I understand, you can only get a RS5 board if you trade in a broken, (or similar) RS5 board. Believe me, if I could just buy one, there would be none left!

The ERR boards out now I believe are RS5.  They were upgraded a year or two ago.

I think the new Sunset F7s with the QSI Titan sound decoders are the best on the market.     Prejudiced opinion.

Unfortunately for the OP, he is a 3R guy and won't easily be able to use the DCC decoder with his TMCC.

Why would the ERR sound chips be any different for 3-Rail TMCC as compared to DCC?

I have to agree have heard them they have really good sounds.

I just wish they were compatible with TMCC but as mentioned they are for the DCC 2 rail system.

The TMCC railsounds  in the engine only seem to have a very few talking phrases and limited sounds with only 3 engine rev levels that sound rather computer like. Sound quality overall is not that good. When you get a good sound system it really sounds great on a long train running around the layout like my Lionel Santa Fe and other MTH engines on my layout.

The Electric RR Co. lists the Railsounds Commander as new improved?

Sunset lists its sound systems on the engines as follows;

  • 3R ERR Cruise, TMCC, Railsounds

2R - QSI "Titan" DC/DCC
