As much as I love tinplate trains, they're much more difficult to take apart for maintenance.

The main point for me in buying tinplate besides their artistic, colorful looks is that anybody can fix these things. I want to be able to fix all my tinplate trains.

However, for those who are much more experienced with tinplate trains, what's the best way to disassemble and reassemble tinplate when need be without causing too much damage to the trains?

Mikado 4501,

You're in luck due to the fact that most of newer trains disassemble like the originals. There are many publications that cover your engines with traditional power. The hard part is feeling your way through the first one.
