Before you buy them, most hats are collapsed in on themselves from 1/2 to 1/4 of a sphere. Collapsing the cap down again would let the hat sit closer to the wall on a narrower shelf. The racks tend to hold the caps at an angle, or by the brim, neither  the best for display, but its a little less space, and less work. If the cloth sags, a lightweight cardboard backer, can be inserted behind the "logos" face, new hats sometimes have these, someone at a store may let you trace one vs. buying a new hat.
