I understand that forum sponsor, Easitside Trains (who are actually located on the West Coast, in beautiful Kirkland WA, near Seattle) recieved their Big Boys.  I did not order one, but they do have a few on sale, so if this is on your Christmas list, and you live in the Western part of the USA, you should give them a call.

Hi David,

I read many of your posts and you are one of the most knowledgeable guys on the forum.  They are a bit of old school, they answer the phone when you call them, they have a full-service repair shop, and carry a huge inventory.  If you are interested in something they have, call them and discuss price.  Most of what I buy from them is preorder for which they do not ask for a deposit. The pre-order prices are very competitive.

At some point, they may want a better on-line system, and someone like you would be a great source for best practices in the industry.

For those of us on the West Coast,  it does take a week for something to get delivered from the East Coast, and if you have a problem another week to send it back to the East Coast dealer or Lionel, and then a week to get it back. So having a first class dealer way over here, that can do repairs is worth something.

I do want one, but it not in the cards.   I saw it at York and I told Mike Reagan that I would need to buy a new house to build the proper layout for the Big Boy....he really laughed at the thought of someone buyiong a new house for the Big Boy.

I hope this helps.

Sam, I think it's more of a "local" reference to the fact that Kirkland, WA sits on the east side of Lake Washington near Seattle.

David is correct.  Bellevue, Kirkland, Redmond, Issaquah, Medina, Clyde Hill, etc. are all "on the eastside" due to their location across from Seattle on the east side of Lake Washington.

Sam

If you are ever in Seattle in the summer let me know and we will try and arrange the deluxe three rail boat tour.  (Not to be confused with that Hawaiian three hour tour.  ) Our vessel departs from Seattle and crosses Lake Washington with stops in Kirkland and Medina to see Eastside Trains and the Northwest Trunk Lines respectively.  In the Seattle area all of our finest O gauge attractions are only a 2 block walk from a public dock!

The fist week of August if fantastically fun but a little crazy in Seattle.  The first Sunday in August is the annual Seafair unlimited hydroplane race.

Earlier in the week the Blue Angels arrive.  The race course is the center point for their air show.  While the course is well south of Kirkland the Blue Angels make several fly byes over Eastside Trains.

Highway traffic in the Seattle area is always horrible.  It gets worse when the Blue angels are in town.  The I-90 floating bridge is closed during the Blue Angels show for safety's sake.

But as congested as the traffic is on land the worst traffic jams are on the lake.  Thousands of boats are out when the Blue Angels are flying!

There is plenty of fun on the lake in the summer.  But there is fun to be had on Lake Washington this time of the year too.  Is anyone going to Eastside Trains by Christmas Ship to pick up their Big Boy?
