I dunno, Jack;  Seems to me I heard that they were capable of 70mph+.  I do remember seeing them in 1951 on a driving/vacation trip from Wisconsin to Calif. along Hi 30 and seeing them double headed, sometimes with Challengers, sometimes two Big Boys, and they were moving along as fast as my Dad would push out old Nash Ambassador along.  They were pretty awesome engines, as the kids nowadays would say.

17 was my count.  IMHO a BB should have no less than 20 behind it, caboose not included.  As I build my fleet of cars, my rule is 5 cars per engine, which is 2 more than most RTR sets have.  I like that look.  So for now my BB will pull at least 10.  Once I have the 5 per engine requirement met for all my locomotives, then I'll up it to at least 10 per engine.  I like long trains if you can't tell.
