Hi all,

I am thinking of making a wooden replica Bigboy number plate on my scroll saw (simple practice project)  I plan on using an image of one from the web for a template but I could use some dimension help.  What is the over height and width of a u.p. number plate.  Also, how thick are they?

Anybody else attempt to do this or a similar project?  Any and all advice is appreciated.

thanks,

Matt

The number board

The correct term is "Number Plate", as the illuminated number boards are located on the top of the smokebox, on each side, mounted at an angle in order to be seen from depots and train order stations.

runs at an angle and based on this picture

it looks to be a 45° angle. Don't worry I did the trig for you. here is my work. you will be able to get a valid vertical dimension from the picture above

not sure how accurate Post got the shape, but in case it would help...

i'm sure he'll have a drawing (for a few $).

[ed... hold off a few days.  i sent a request for that drawing to a friend who built a Challenger (assume it's the same number board(?)  chances are pretty good that if he has it, he'll send me a copy.]
