I've noticed that the marker lights "blink" on a 5v PS2 steam engine. I'm going to replace the battery tomorrow believing that this may be the source of the issue.
Would appreciate any feedback on how to fix this issue.
Thanks,
Tom

Not sure if this is your issue but this thread discusses it and points to another thread with a solution.
MartyE - thanks so much for the link. I will have another look tomorrow based on the information that you provided. Tom
The blinking lights are not the battery, I can tell you that.
If they only flicker with smoke on, there's a known issue with some 5V PS/2 steamers, and there's a multi-part fix to correct it.
Here's a direct link to the fix for the flickering lights: MTH 5V Steam Flickering Lights with Smoke On Fix.
I've done this on a number of locomotives, it goes about half-n-half. Half of them are fixed by the first easy steps, the other half need the whole shooting match.

Thanks John for the info. Will try to live with it for the time being. Tom
Tom, I didn’t feel comfortable with the mux workaround. So I just wired 12-18 volt range led bulbs to the headlight and marker lights. Downside is they go on with track power. Upside is I didn’t screw up any electronic boards.

Steve - that's a great idea. If it's not a bother, would you please provide a source for the 12-18 volt led bulbs for the headlight and marker lights? thanks, Tom
