Blue Ridge Southern RR

What's the purpose of a small rr? Does it duplicate anyone else's domain? 

I'll watch for BRS when I visit my son in Asheville.

From what I can tell Bill, in reading the very brief story in our local paper, it took over several established NS customers including Evergreen Packaging, the local paper mill and Giles Chemical, the largest epsom salts producer in America. They plan to expand their customer base.

The BRS took over several NS lines in the Asheville area.  They now operate the NS-owned portion of the Murphy Branch from Asheville to Sylva, and the northern half of the Saluda line down towards Hendersonville and Pisgah Forest.

In other words, the only NS presence in Asheville is the Morristown to Asheville to Salisbury line.  Everything else is now Blue Ridge Southern.

Nice Railfanning - Engine with photos.

Is this part of the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway that runs between Blue Ridge, GA and the twin border towns of McCaysville, Georgia and Copperhill, Tennessee? I took a sightseeing trip on that railway several years ago with my wife and two daughters and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was an old railway with a trestle bridge or two and Civil War era telegraph poles that still line the railbed. A lot of fun. 

That area is a good area for railfanning. To add to the railfun, I also toured the Misty Mountain Railroad Just south of Blairsville, GA, an hour east of Blue Ridge. A huge O gauge layout with hundreds of locos and an incredible number of cars. He can run more than a dozen trains at a time (if memory serves me right) and it's an incredible sight. Highly recommended.

Sam, how far away from your house is this railroad located? Near me not that far away we have the W&LE. Also 20 miles north of me we have 2 sets of mains. CSX and NS. Quiet a few heritage units go through often. I haven't seen any north of me, but the latest that has gone through is NS Conrail ES44AC #8098 on the CSX main pulling containers.

Hi Tom - I just came across your inquiry (10:30p Thursday). The Blue Ridge Southern runs past us here between Asheville and Dillsborough to the SW. The tracks are about a mile from our home. From Asheville it runs south and SE but I'm not certain to what towns.

Wow, a new RR in your neck of the woods.  By the way, you have some lovely photos of locomotives you could send them to inspire them about some new locos for them.
