In June of 1941, BMT ran its last service on this line in June 1941.
The Fulton street Elevated closure in 1941, covered the portion of the line from Sands Street Loop in Downtown Brooklyn out to Rockaway Avenue in Brownsville. This service was replaced by the new extension of IND 8th ave "A" Train Subway service to Rockaway Avenue. The El would continue to operate from Rockaway Avenue east , through the great complex at Broadway Junction/Atlantic Avenue in East New York and eastward to Lefferts Blvd in Queens for about 15 years longer. A portion of this El structure weas re-used for the IND ' A"Train service to the Rockaways and still operates today .
During the period 1941-1956 , the Fulton Street Elm Service provided direct service to Manhattan 8th Avenue via a through connection to the BMT Canarsie Line. The 5 car " Multis" provided the service . These were lightweight, articulated subway car sets developed by BMT engineers for use on the Brooklyn Els like the Fulton Street Line. BMT's original experimentation with Articulated train sets first manifested itself in the wood side " C" class cars which were the first articulated and had closed vestibules and pneumatically operated doors. They predated the D type Triplex articulated used on the BMT Southern Divisions Suway Lines. BMT had several lightweight car designs for this Fulton Street line, including the Green Hornet, The Bluebirds and the silverliners . All of thes are now gone, none preserverved.
