Shades of "My engine costs more than your engine!" Has this hobby come down to a pi**ing contest?
If someone can actually afford a $17K toy (oops, model?) more power to them and good luck not damaging such a museum piece by actually running it! Personally, I believe my wife's used 1999 Porsche Boxster at $15K in 2014 was a much better deal! But then, what do I know? 😁

Now Bockholt locomotives can be bought directly at the company: https://www.bockholt-lokomotiven.de/en/
This eBay listing is already there for more than a year; an asking price might have little to do with value.

Thank you Fred, out of my league

Love that car. Did you have to replace the main bearing? Almost bought a 2004 Boxter. Would love to have one.
On the other side of the coin there are plenty of vettes, 911's and boxters out there, but few Bockholt museum engines.
If I had another sporty car I would settle for the Bockholt if I could afford one

Fred, do you think these models are superior to KM-1, Fulgurex, Key Models, etc?
Also in 1986 it was priced at $17,000????? Did they sell?
DAYLIGHT: No on the main bearing. We bought it from the original owner with fairly low mileage. Recently had suspension replacement and general service. It has a tuned exhaust system. Tires are NOT cheap and front and rear sets are different sizes. With my back and knee issues, I can no longer get into it! It is really my wife's "toy"!
We can but dream; wow, what a model - check out this 0-4-4-0T ....volume up.
Precision Swiss and German models similar to those depicted on this thread are equisitely crafted, and are in a league of their own, and priced accordingly! Not for the faint of heart!
No phillips head screws visible. I like it.
I dunno, at those prices, I would rather stick with the exposed screws! 😉
Nice sounds, but no smoke? A swinging bell at thise prices would be nice. Joe
At that price, maybe they should include a complete layout! 😁

I agree, have to have smoke in my steam engines especially at this price (well ANY steam engine). The last gauge 1 engine made by Fulgurex included smoke, I think for the first time. According to Reynaulds trains, Fulgurex will no loner make Gauge 1 steam engines.
KM-1 include their dynamic smoke system which is excellent. Engines cost $3500.00 and up but haven't seen their list prices higher than $5,000.00. Wish they would make some French engines.
If this be them, its certainly fun to look at their offerings.
FulgUrex and Bockholt products are in an exclusive "club" of Swiss and German model trains that are exqusitely crafted as essentially hand made pieces, and are priced accordingly. The old adage, "If you have to ask the price, you probably cannot afford it" applies here, as it does with luxury yachts and private jets! "Chump change" for millionaires and billionaires!
Such a thing is not for me. I'm the type that would back over it in the Rolls... plowing that into the stonework after. So neither for me. But its nice admire the workmanship.

ONE chuff per revolution on a 4 cylinder locomotive? Egads, what a swindle...

I do not believe the purchasers of these engines are interested in the sound systems. Furthermore, I would guess that most end up as display models, perhaps in locked and alarmed cases!
As much as I can appreciate and admire, from afar, these fine-crafted models, it makes me all the more enjoy my humble Lionel and MTH standard gauge, and my beloved original European LGB TOY trains! I leave the "rarified" models to the "locked and alarmed case" purchasers! LOL!
I strongly disagree and believe there is room for everything from Lionel to Bockholt and all can be appreciated in its own right.
Why the shiny (chrome-plated?) tires? They detract from the overall accuracy.
They were new as were the Lionel. Gauge 1 is more accurate, proven fact.
