Boston Metro Hi-Railers Open house

I had a great time and the layout looks and runs great. The bench work is is first class like the members of the club itself!  Thank you for having us. I couldn't resist this cool club car.

Both Dotty and I had a great time today at the layout.  Everything ran perfect and it was great to see how DCS and Legacy/TMCC do co-exist on the same layout with no problems.  The scenery will be awesome when finished.  John put up some great pictures and they represent what high quality benchwork is like.  All the members were great and answered any questions that might come up.  Myself and others took note of the cooling fan set up that was used with the TIU.  Job well done.  A great idea for long running.

I know Dotty took some pictures of that and I will get them on this post Sunday. 

Great job guys.  Please keep us posted when the next open house is.

Wish I could have been there   Never thought of putting fans on the TIU's  They do get hot and believe that is a major problem

Ben, these guys are doing a great job.  Very cool idea with the fan.

A great idea, and an example of the clubs ingenuity.  I'm going to check out whether if my IT dept has "scrounged" any fans from deceased PC's.

It was just too nice a day for me to spend it indoors. Maybe next time.

I enjoyed my visit to the new Wilmington location.  The club guys (and women) were great. Thank-you.

I'm amazed at the effort this club exerted to move this layout that was never designed to be moved -- and did it as fast as they did.

Actually I was living my Indiana Jones fantasy...  I figured if I wore that hat when someone came in who wanted to run something they could be sent to the guy in the Indiana Jones fedora!!

Looks like a great time Jim.  I have been collecting fans from work to install on the TIU's  Thats a great idea.  I was just mentioning to a few club members last week how hot the TIU's get

Ben, great that the fans worked good for you...  Did the TIUs principally overheat or drop output voltage or what prior to the fans?  Do they operate longer now?  We are going to install air filters since, as I mentioned before, we are doing a good job of pumping dust into them now...  but that does not seem to affect operation...

Keep me informed of your experiences with the fans and I'll pass it on to the BMHR Chief Engineer... we'll also keep you informed especially when we get the air filters installed...

This one shows my Big Boy #4007 pulling a UP coal train around the layout... This train did not run during the Open House but earlier this year... I thought you all might enjoy it...  This run occurred before we started the scenery project in earnest...

To bluelinec4:  Ben, do you have any pictures of how you installed the fans on your TIUs?  have you installed air filters as well?
