Brake Valve for a Passenger Car

No waiver possible. If the car is going to move over an FRA-regulated railroad (in this case it will be NS, WLE and OCRR)  it must have working air brakes.

Try contacting McCormack, out in Oregon. You never know what all those guys out there may have stashed.

An L2A is the 3- bolt version with bolt holes at the 12 o'clock, 4 and 8 o'clock positions.  Mostly on cars built in the teens and twenties, before the big two-piece UC brake valves came along for the heavyweight Pullman cars.

Or what about Bellevue?  Didn't the Mad River group have old passenger cars in operation through the 80's/early 90's?

Rich, if these valves are the same as those used in Europe, I can go and ask the VSM here over the weekend. They have numerous passenger cars dating back to the late 1800's.  Just let me know if I can help. My email is in my profile.

I thought Euorpean trains used vacuume braking systems. 

Some do. But in earlier days there used to be a mixture of air and vacuum in use. Some rolling stock is fitted with both systems. Air brakes are starting to be the most common nowadays though in the post-steam era. Electro-pneumatic systems are also quite popular.

It is an L2A Brake Valve. That's the only nomenclature it has. I don't think it was used in Europe, but it was used here 100 years ago.

100 years ago? Wow!  Time really flies when you're busy doing other things.

I checked with Midas and these L2A brake valves are on back order.

Not sure if the brake rigging is on any of the OR&W stock, but you might ask Dave Adair if you can't find one closer to you. I think the Pennsy converted what they had to air brakes about 1915, which would put them in the right era.

Rich. I asked around this weekend, and they don't think that they have one. But they'll have a look through the spares and salvaged parts store this week, just in case there's one hiding away somewhere.  Sorry I wasn't able to be of much help.
