I am working on a project that would have model cars moving along a roadway. My problem is that model vehicles with moving front axles seem to be hit or miss in this scale range. I can find them all day in 1:87, but clearly I need models twice as big. Anywhere in the range of 1:43 -1:50 would be fine.  I prefer to use 1:48/1:50, but as no vehicles for this layout have been purchased yet, I could do 1:43 and re-work my purchase/road plans to accommodate larger vehicles.
Does anyone have experience with a brand that consistently makes moving front axles? I ask here b/c today I can only really find this stuff online and so I can't touch it 'til I buy it.

Flanger,

IMHO, I believe the OP was hoping that there was a company that made O scale vehicles with front wheels that are on a pivot, so that a magnet can be attached to the bottom of the car and beneath the layout to create the effect of a moving vehicle.

Downeastcapitol,

I do know any brands that have the feature you're describing. I myself would be very interested if such vehicles exist.

Bob, that's a great idea. I hadn't thought of that for static scenes. I haven't begun to build my layout -I'm still planning, but I will definitely use that technique when I get there.

Dan, yes that is exactly what my current project entails. If I find something consistent I will be sure to post it here, but at this time the only option I am sure of is SuperSlicks and other 1:43 R/C cars which are $25 to $35 a pop. It's a bit expensive for me as I would only be chopping them up for parts. That said, an HO scale Faller car is often over $100 so it may not be too crazy

Some late 60's era king size Matchbox cars and some Corgi vehicles had steerable front wheels. I had a Charger, Cougar and police car with that feature. The only manufacturers I know of that have possible front wheels is First Gear, TWH/Sword, Conrad and possibly Joal. And these are mostly service, construction or emergency vehicles.
