I need several stone bridge abutments for my layout. Can anyone give me ideas on how to make my own or who might have some reasonably priced ones? They need to be about 5" high. I'm looking for something that is, or can be made to be pretty realistic looking.

Scenic Express also has them if you'd rather have them ready-made.

Pete, the abutments under your girder bridge look great. Can I ask what tools you used to make the deep divets/contouring?

I can't say that I remember in any detail. But, I do most of my foam-carving with a cheap manicure set. They come with a variety of spoons and blades that work very well. You can often find them at the Dollar Store. In that particular case, I got the "raw shattered stone" look by picking out bits with the point of an Xacto knife.
That whole project probably took 3 or 4 hours. Gotta love pink foam.

Not in that case. But, I often do use a light dusting of clear coat when I want an "old weathered" look. The concrete caps in the Bascule Bridge scene are an example.

Looks great Erik. Thanks. Where did you get the truss bridge and girder bridge or did you scratch build them?
John H, I would be interested in the MTH piers. How tall are they?
The piers are 6" to the top of the screw holes, about 5 and 7/8" to the flat top. Feel free to email me to continue.
