Very interesting - Thanks for posting!
yes, thank you for posting this
Hopefully the Queen will be transported from Balmoral/Scotland to London for her state funeral by train. This will be an opportunity for a large portion of British citizenry to pay their respects for their beloved monarch. Such funeral trains in our times have brought fourth a great display of public spirit in this country....such as the Roosevelt, Bobby Kennedy and George HW Bush funeral trains.
This is what was planned a few year ago and hopefully will not change.
The Guardian reported in 2017 that if the Queen dies in Scotland, she will be transported back to the capital by train.
After a service of reception at St Giles’ cathedral, Elizabeth II will be put on board the Royal train at Edinburgh Waverley station.
The train will make a slow, somber progress down the east coast line from Edinburgh to London.
UPDATE
Sounds like the Queen will be flown back now
Uka - Think you are right. Disappointing.
It is noted in the press that an anticipated railway labor strike scheduled for Sept 15th has been called off, in respect for the Queen. Perhaps that might put the funeral train back in play.
Winston Churchill had a funeral train in 1965. As a side note, it was pulled by a Battle of Britain class 4-6-2. Perhaps the funeral train precedent will be reinstated.

It still isn’t totally clear what is happening from what I can see over here but I personally would find it most fitting if she came back to Windsor and the Flying Scotsman was at the head.
It sadly won’t happen in this day and age.
I hope Alan doesn’t mind these images being posted which are off topic for train related posts but they are related to the op’s post.
We live only 15 miles away from Windsor and we spent this morning with our daughter and grandson who will probably not appreciate the enormity of the day and is only two and a half to pay our respects to our late Queen.
Here are few pictures of our morning at Windsor Castle.
This photo was taken at the end of the ‘Long Walk’ leading to the entrance of the castle where people were allowed to present flowers.
A picture of our grandson
A picture of where all the worlds press have allocated spaces for next Monday when the Queen will travel from the funeral service at Westminster Abbey in London to Windsor to lay at rest in the St. George’s chapel within the castle next to Prince Phillip. Only one media was present currently and if I remember correctly it was NBC?
This is the Henry VIII gate opposite the world press where the Queens cortège will pass through.

With a 5 mile long and 11 hour wait queue line, think the British public would have been far better served by a funeral train. None the less, the out pouring of love and praise for a great human being was very moving.
Not sure the two things are connected. The remains of her father, George VI, was brought by train from Sandringham to King's Cross - London in 1952, but the lines to view his remains laying in state were about as long as they are now for Queen Elizabeth.
Thanks for posting the pictures and for sharing the information above. I too was hoping they would use The Royal Train between Edinburgh and London to give people across the UK an opportunity to pay their respects. That would have been quite a sight! My grandparents left Scotland when they were 21. My Scottish grandmother and my Canadian mother were always big fan's of the Queen and her parents. My mom grew up during King George VI's rein and looked up to then Princess Elizabeth as one of the few role models to girls back in those times. The Queen was an amazing woman thrust into the job unexpectedly and served her people very well until the end of her life as she promised. Although it's interesting to watch from afar I'm also glad we rejected that system when we did.
King George VI funeral train returning from Sandringham (Wolferton/Royal Station) to London (King's Cross). Train is shown 1:20-2:30:
That was all changed a while back
