Hi--
The prong snapped on my 681 turbine drawbar today; looks like it's a simple swap with the slot screw. Will I need a rivet gun to install the new spring-loaded pin?
Thanks...

From your description, I think you are referring to the truck spring on the rear set of trucks. If that is the case, the parts you need are 671-81 (truck stud), 671-151 (truck spring, 671-33 (cup washer). The stud would have washer on first, then spring, passed through rear truck, into hole in draw bar, and then you would have to peen the end of the stud over (mushroom that end), to make the repair. Check a diagram at Olsen's Toy Train Parts website, and search down the bottom of page for the Library link. Click on that, and then click on Postwar Loco's, search the 671 engine and there is a diagram of the parts. Pretty self explanatory. Good Luck
Thanks TeleDoc--
Yes; those are exactly the parts I need. What tool is required to peen the end of the stud?
Thank you once again.
The proper tool is called a rolling clincher. These rolling clinchers are made to either fit into a press, or as a hand tool. Some folks use a pilot pin punch, which looks like a pin punch, but has a dome (rounded button)with a shoulder on the end. These tools come in a number of sizes. i cannot tell you off the top of my head which size would be correct.
You can probably get away with using a small cold chisel (say 1/4 inch) to make and "X" in the end of the rivet.
If you are unfamilar with setting this type of rivet, I suggest getting an extra.
When I need a rivet or screw, I usually get a few, in case there is an "OOPS" or just to have on hand for next time.
Or you can purchase an entire rear truck assembly, and save your damaged one for a spare front truck.
Thank you, CW. I think I will take your last suggestion and buy a used, complete truck. Are the 671/681/2020 trailing trucks all identical?
Yes, the basic truck by itself is identical, the front truck part # 671-93, the rear truck part # 671-202 (which only added the drawbar, stud, spring, cup washer to give it that number) otherwise without the additional parts, the trucks are the same, so you wind up with a spare front truck.

Yes. You can also use the trailing truck from an 8404 MPC Turbine.
Thanks TeleDoc & CW. Just wanted to be 100% sure before I pulled the trigger on a truck listed as coming off of a 2020.
