Broken PS2 has any value?

It may have some value, depending on what exactly is wrong with it.  I test each board individually on my MTH test fixture.  You could test it by taking apart a good locomotive and testing each board.  Of course, you could also toast a good locomotive board and be in worse shape than you were!

Sounds like an audio amp fault.  They can be repairable, unless prolonged short has caused more damage.  If the board is repairable it has value.  If not it doesn't.  I can test repair if you like.  G

George, I have run into several with bad DPDT slide switches.  The wires burn up and the customer gets what he stated.  I put the boards in the test fixture and almost every time, the boards survive and are good.  The replacement switch I use is the one from original Protosounds.  They were made by someone else and are good.  Both Jeff and Jason have bbeen made aware of this.  Looking at the switch from above does not cut it.  Open the locomotive and observe the bottom of the switch.

 I got ones with that problem. One was the 3/2 and the other had a bad polarity switch.

Most of the time, the switch is stuck and/or not thrown fully. I find those easier because I'm two rail. It creates a dead short when thrown or stuck the wrong way for me. Maybe 3x total now out of many, many engines.

I hate to say this then, but also check the wiring to the trucks and thru the wheel sets for shorts with your meter.

2 rail is pickier about it sometimes.

Good point Joe.  Your continuity meter is your best friend when chasing shorting.
