Brent-
I'd try looking up a similar bell/yoke on Lionel's parts website to see if you can use the replacement yoke with your bell. The only difference I see with the VL Hudson bell is it has a magnetic core, but similar brass bells might have the same yoke.

Call Lionel and ask to talk to phil Hull. He will be helpful to you.
Precision Scale makes quite a few "working" bells with separate yokes. Their PSH-4496 is closest to the one on the Hudson but there are a number of others with rope pulls that could be cut off and used. The yokes come with pins that could fit into a hole at the top of the bell making installation easy and secure.

(Worst case) I wonder if you could get one of these regular bells(in stock) and glue one of those small reed switch magnets Boxcar Bill sells inside of it.?
Get the right part and do it right. You do not have a cheap engine. You can get the part from Lionel. Make the phone call to who I told you to call.
Thanks all for the help.
Marty, I did call Phil Hull on Monday left a message and he replied very quickly.
Lionel doesn't have the bell for the VL Hudson today but he did give me the part number of on that would work. 610-1154-402 part #, it is brass not silver.
Again thanks all for the advice.

Brent, I am glad it worked out. Like anything else in life, go to the top (Phil Hull) and get the proper information. BTW, Phill is a very knowledgeable man. He goes way back to the TAS days and is an expert on what he does. He is in charge of Customer Service like Mike Reagan was.
I was late to the party on this one. Been through this same predicament, unfortunately Lionel just does not have any of those bells on hand. Next time a wrecked / fried Vision Hudson comes in for scrap is the only way they'll be back in stock. Phil gave you the part number for the alternate gold magnetic bell, which is the same one he gave me. You'll just have to paint the whistle piece to match. Brass is more prototypical than nickel anyway!
This is an awesome Forum, with some very knowledgeable people... A Question,
can Lionel get this bell from the manufacturer that made the Bell? Just wondering if that's possible...I am proud of Lionel's customer service and that's Why I keep buying there Products.
Just curious - exactly HOW did you break your VL Hudson's bell?
I assume a derailment or accidental fall?
I particularly like the swinging bell and whistle smoke on my VL Hudson!
FYI - the whistle is already a gold finish on my BLACK VL Hudson.
Bells are not hard to break during maintenance. Does the yoke pull out of your silver bell?
Here is a Yoke.
Are you sure about that? Have any photos? All the Vision Hudsons I've ever seen had silver bell and whistle pieces...

Replacing traction tires, I turned the engine bottoms up and broke the yoke, won't do it again, I knew better then , just a stupid mistake.

What you need is a "FOAM CRADLE" to work on your Engines and Rolling Stock !!

Got that right, the sad thing is I have all the foam needed to make a cradle, just been putting it off. I will make it tomorrow??? You know if you snooze you will break the bell.
