Some friends of mine asked us to update their 10 year old layout. We had to keep the U shaped table (2- 7'x12's  connected by a 4'x8'), no tunnels and 3 tracks.

We built it in sections in the garage and assembled most of it today. (well the trains run at least) Special thanks to Walter at RMT for supplying the trains and towers and to Ben for supplying a curved bridge.  Here are some photos.

Thanks gentlemen,

Charlie, it's all conventional because it is a childrens  inter active museum. The transformers are connected to a motion sensor so they only come on when someone enters the center of the layout space. Each track will have a large button that a child can push to activate one of the three trains. There are also doorbell type buttons for some of the accessories like the fire house, gas station, billboard guy and lights in various buildings.

Thanks again guys,

  Ben, When can we start???

MichMikeM, No tunnels were because the layout has plexiglass almost up to the ceiling which makes it difficult to get any derailed trains. It's also easier to do maintenance.

J1e, The museum is in  Florham Park NJ. here is the web site. http://www.imaginethatmuseum.com/

This is what they had for the last 10 years.

Wow, can I be your friend? Seriously, one of my favorite O gauge train memories is the old Rochester PAL layout, well covered in several "Model Railroading" editions. It was thought to be a great way to keep young folk out of mischief and into building and running trains as an antidote to street life. It was also an icon for many a young modeler. Always great to see train people thinking about youth and doing something substantial for them...
