I'm starting to mentally design a small test stand for my work bench. I'll be testing locomotives, whistle tenders, operating cars and some accessories.

My power source will be a 1033 transformer.

First- I run and operate ONLY Postwar Lionel. As in mid 1950's technology.

I need help with the following-

Ammeter:  What range should I have?

Circuit breaker:  What rating, how quick?

Volt meter:  I'm assuming 0-24 VAC should be all I need.

Thank you

I use an LW with a postwar lionel #91 electromagnetic circuit breaker. My ammeter is 0 to 5 Amps. I think my voltmeter is 0 to 20 or 25 volts. I have rollers that get used on very rare occasion.

I keep an uncoupling track, and two straights in a drawer. I get them out when I want to test an operating car. I also keep a milk car platform nearby.

I have  Lionel 5D test bench right above my desk. I don't use it for anything other than transformer testing.

I think you 1033 should be fine.

I'm also planning on a test/work station.  Here's something else to consider on the 110 side...

I'm thinking of wiring in a lighted power switch to show that I have power. Then come off the lighted switch to a series of outlet controlled switches. 1 for a light, 1 for transformer, 1 for soldering iron, 1 for heat gun, etc..    Just flip a switch, soldering iron gets hot, done, turn it off.  This way I don't need to constantly plug/unplug items I need. When I turn off the lighted switch, all are dead.

After leaving my soldering iron on for an extended period of time, even though I have a master switch that operates the workshop power, I got one of these timers and use it just for the soldering iron only. I thought my master switch was the thing at first, but the work bench lights also have their own switches on the fixtures, which got turned off without using the master. Problem now solved with the timer!!
