I have finally put my nose to the grindstone and built my layout. I would like some advice on the scenery for the layout, since I have never done this before I decided to seek help from the people that know all about it. If you have any ideas for me please give me a shout on my email or just right here on the forum. I will edit this post later and give you pictures of the layout. The layout is really plain right know since I just built it Saturday 10/6/12. Please give me any thoughts or concerns with my layout plan.

Thanks Again,

Josh Scott

Josh,

Get yourself one or both of these references at the local hobby shop or on Amazon.

The Scenery book is by Dave Frary and the Hi-Rail Guide is by Dennis Brennan. Both are published through Kalmbach Publishing, the Classic Toy Trains people.

The first will show you many different approaches to every aspect of scenery so you can select the one that seems to suit your railroad and preferences best.

In the other one, Dennis goes further, showing how to work with buildings and many other details to finish your scenes. It describes a complete layout build right from benchwork to finishing details.

You will see many suggestions from people on the forum, but it's good to have a general reference so you can get the whole story when you are just beginning. The forum is excellent for answering specific problem situations you may come up against as you work on the layout.
