I have a spot on the layout that I would like to fill. The area has a relatively small footprint (say the size of a post-war 445 switch tower) but I would like something tall, much taller actually. Does anyone have any suggestions? Been scanning the Lionel and MTH catalogs without much luck, perhaps there is something out there that I am overlooking. Kits are fine as I am a decent modeler, scratch building is beyond my time and skill right now. Many thanks in advance.

From the OGR store......6x6 foot print.....easy build....
I saw that -- my only hesitation is that my layout is very much a postwar style layout and this building, while beautiful, is more of a scale appearance layout building. What are your thoughts about painting it in a slightly more "toy-like" fashion (no weathering, for instance) to get a look that is more in line with what I am doing? Thanks for your thoughts.
That ought to work. Paint the building with a shiny gloss paint in a color used on tinplate maybe, with a contrasting color for the fire escape, and put a nice big Lionel or marx sign of the roof, and it would look good.

Thanks for the suggestions. I did not realize that all of the MTH buildings could be extended.

What's the context of the surrounding area? You can place an office building in a spot, but what are the surroundings?
Layout is of modest size, 6x8. Outer loop of O42 with a passing siding, inner loop of O31 with a figure-eight built in and a parking siding (opposite the outer loop passing siding). Figure-eight is elongated on one side for the "town." Inside that loop are the MTH firehouse, Irene's Diner, the MTH hobby shop, an MTH apartment building (fits on the platform of the firehouse) and a water tower behind the firehouse. The firehouse has additional room behind it -- this is the spot. The town extends over the tracks, and there are a few stores as well as a police station nearby. I like the way the buildings are placed in close proximity and I thought an additional tall building that could be seen behind the firehouse would create additional visual interest, and depth.
Scenery on the layout is relatively simple -- I wanted a flat layout since this is a layout I want my two young sons to get comfortable using, so we tried to go for visual interest by adding good landscaping, trees, nice buildings and plenty of lights and accessories. Still nothing like your last layout -- my wife and I marveled at the photos you put up here -- but this one has come along nicely. If I can figure out how to do so, I'll post a few photos of what we have. Many thanks in advance.
Edit: added a few photos. Building would be behind the firehouse to the left of the water tower. Footprint is larger than it appears and can accomodate, for example, a 445 switch tower (but that tower is shorter than the firehouse so it doesn't look that great). Thanks again.

How about a cell phone tower or a wind turbine or two?
