I haven't seen anything here about the book that just arrived on my desk, "Building Union Pacific 844" by noted author John E. Bush, so I thought that I would pass this along. This is a 56 page softbound book about the UP FEF-3 class 4-8-4's. The information contained in this book was gleaned from documents of Wilhem A. Fleischer who was UP's representative to ALCO during the construction of the FEF-3 class locomotives. The information was recently found by his grandson Richard Fleischer in a box by pure chance.

While I haven't yet had a chance to read this book, it definitely looks to be one the serious UP fan will want on their bookshelf. You can find it and other RR books at: South Platte Press

I finished reading this book last night. As I reported to begin with, this a small book at 56 pages. However, don't let the size fool you. It is a very well done book with many quality photos. Those of you, like myself, who have not been students of the FEF class will find some interesting facts about these locos. One of which is that there were a few that were modified to have three smokestacks.

I would say that this book is a fine companion and a must have for anyone that has a copy of "The Mighty 800" by William Kratville.

BTW, according to my search, those interested in this book will save a bunch by buying directly from the printer.
