@Apples55- Sir- I refer you to your post on the 26th day of June in the Lords year of 2024........

@pennsyfan- Nice GG-1 Bob. Don't forget to empty the mint car if you go to sell it......the buyer would get quite a surprise.
The K-line Plymouth's all come with a second set of "scale" couplers. I have a few extras. Don't know why they weren't just installed from the factory. They look much better than the bigger claws.

@leapinlarry- Sorry to hear of the loss of yet another friend..... I don't run modern era but that GE EVO is sharp.

@VHubbard- congrats on the bucket list find.

Great purchases everyone....looks like I have some catching up to do.

Bob

Speaking of Atlas RS, I found this conventional RS-D 4/5 on the bay for a great price. I did have to series wire the motor. Then, I rewired it so it would start in forward with cab first. I prefer it that way, and I believe Santa Fe did too. Nice switcher for the money!

Donnie, I have the MTH RK version, and while I don’t know if it’s true to prototype, mine starts short hood forward.

I could be wrong but I think toy train manufacturers started making their engines start short hood forward when the FRA regulations stated it that way. I was happily surprised that they went back to long hood forward when modeling older prototypes; but the modern models are short hood forward.

Well… seems like I done gone and did it again

First up are a pair of milk cars from Forum Sponsor JR Junction. I have been trying to “restrain” some of my purchases to lines that had a presence in my corner of Pennsylvania (with, admittedly, little success!!!). When someone posted pics of one of these, I realized that I didn’t have any O&W cars on my roster. The O&W had a branch line which ran from Cadosia, NY down through northern Wayne County to Scranton in Lackawanna County (not sure if they carried milk on that branch, but they do on my pike).

IMG_6841

Then, I made the mistake of checking out Gryzboski’s website (one of my all too regular failings) and noticed that he had a bunch of Altas cars, and I just had to look (Mea Culpa) - looks like they plan on carrying Atlas going forward. Amidst the current offerings were a couple of local roads… D&H and Bethlehem Steel.

IMG_6866IMG_6868IMG_6865

And while I was there, Joe mentioned that an engine I had ordered (and COMPLETELY forgot about) had come in - a Lionel legacy S2 in SIRT (Staten Island Rapid Transit) livery. While not local to me currently, having grown up in NYC, I had to add an MTA engine to the roster. Soooooo…

IMG_6869

Finally, I received notice that two beer reefers for the good folks at the NJ HiRailers were arriving. Another wonderful job by the club!!!

IMG_6875IMG_6874

As with all of the clubs prior offerings, they have some amazing graphics and NYC/Brooklyn connection.

So, taken in total, I have just added another complete train to my layout!!!

I think this shows incredible restraint.  The SIRT doesn't count because you forgot you ordered it, those NJHRs cars were ordered last year so they don't count, so I mere 5 new additions is truly restrained for you.

Rode Amtrak's Empire Building twice a year between Spokane and Milwaukee from 2013 to 2017 and thought it would be awesome to have these cars in my train collection.

Unfortunately all the Amtrak Superliner offerings I saw were not the Phase VI.

About a year ago I found some! I thought they were a bit pricey, but the details are awesome.

I picked up this nice smooth running Lionel T1 "Texan" 2-10-4 from Trainz as a Father's day Special - Free Shipping. Heck, $36 is nothing to sneeze at these days for shipping is it?  They had 3 of these and this one had a 'smudge' on the roof and a reduced price.  Let her stretch her legs Friday afternoon on Bob's layout and she's very nice. Built in the early 2000s, she only has 2 chuffs and pretty weak smoke but the sounds are really full and deep. Lots of detail for a steamer that old too - look close at the valves and piping. Am most pleased with this one...IMG_7361IMG_7364IMG_7365IMG_7386

No worries Paul....I've forgotten about several pre-orders already.....😂😂😂

Got my new Lionel Rock Island GP-7 !  With 4 pickup rollers it runs nice and slow and smooth throughout my yard - planning to use it as my yard switcher.  Very very happy with this engine!  Electro couplers front and rear.

(I had purchased a Lionel BN GP-20 earlier in the year, but with only 2 pickup rollers it unfortunately was not able to navigate my yard reliably - even though it was more expensive.  Had to return it.)

Sharp looking engine, Gene - enjoy. I recently picked up the SIRT version and I have to agree… a good runner (I don’t use smoke, so I can’t comment on that aspect).

I reminded of an old story about somebody's engine smoking on the tract, and somebody said Diesals aren't suppose to smoke. but then it is an alco, and they do have the honorary steamer title

@Genemed posted:

Approval accepted.🙂I’ve had my eye on your LNE’s for a while and always liked the paint scheme. When the Lionel model was available I couldn’t pass it up especially living in New England my whole life. I purchased the caboose from Charles Ro a few weeks ago.

Gene

It's amazing how many short lines and fallen flags ran through New England......

And I'm trying to collect them all......

JBL makes a bluetooth speaker you can clip onto things such as my bike, workshop, and of course, above the train layout. Version 3 is a few versions old so it can be had for $30.

IMG_8943

Then on YouTube there are tons of sounds to choose to fit your layout. I searched on “city soundscape Chicago subway”. There are ones that play for over an hour of people riding the L and recording the sounds of squeaking brakes, running over rails, cars honking and talking etc.

I connect my Mac to the speaker and it makes my city layout vibe more alive.

One PITA is you get a commercial every so often that you have to skip past.

Well, having grown a little tired of my somewhat miss-matched Union Pacific GP9 and GP9-B, I traded them up for a newer Legacy set of GP35s, a powered and dummy unit. I'll keep the oldest Legacy engine I have, a UP GP7, which still runs fine, but on a shelf in the man cave when it's not running on the layout.

Don't seem to be any more mis matched then a set of  one to one's

It Christmas in July or I really went overboard last week. After reading about the WIF SS boxcars that I posted. I found out that they also ran Reefers. Well lo and behold I found WIF SS reefers on PDT. So I ordered 2, and a Schafer car popped into my cart. While I was reading I noticed that they also ran PFG reefers. So of course one popped up on the bay and it was a PRR car to boot. How could I say no. Well that wasn’t to bad; but then that devil in TN (AKA Leaping Larry)  reached  out that he had a NOS NYC S2 and a NOS JC FM. After we settled that; he hung the carrot out with a NOS John Bull set. Having wanted that set since it  first came out; once again I couldn’t say no. FedEx. Is still on the way today with the PDT order. I can’t go up to the train room because I have landscapers installing sprinklers in the plant beds. So pictures later.

Personally, I’d go with Christmas Sounds like a great haul, Bob… enjoy!!!

Well, on the GP9s, I was referring to the Amour yellow paint not being the exact same shade as well as the different graphics. At least with the GP35s, they're more closely matched.

I can understand your concern. But unless both units were brand new or even had just been through the paint shop together , there would be a slight tone change. due to age of paint or weather.   yes I love the matched color ideal, and I practiceit myself. but in the real world it is not to be.

Good point. But exactly-matching paint colors aside, I also didn't like the horn on the powered GP9 along with the fact that I seemed to get bored with both units quickly. So, when I spotted the newer GP35s on eBay both at the same time and both at reasonable prices, although from different sellers, I grabbed them and am glad I did.

That also I understand, My downfall would have been G30's

Another trip to Grzyboski’s… and additional proof of my weakness…

First up, something I’ve been seeking for some time. I saw ads for this when it was advertised from LOTS, but I procrastinated too long, so when I finally joined LOTS, it was sold out. I justify this purchase under my current theme of purchasing items that might be seen in my corner of NE Pennsylvania (and it has Pennsy markings to boot!!!). The Yuengling brewery is in Pottsville, PA.

IMG_2659

And then, I saw this tank car… it will be a perfect match for my I ♥️ NY boxcar, AND it is from the D&H (which also passed through my corner of NEPA).

Flap, flap, oink, oink......🤣🤣🤣

The Yungling car is sweet...😁

I went on another spree last week.  First up an eBay purchase of a Central Operating Lines club car from Long Island. The club made theses reefers with the names of four different dairies from each of the villages, Amityville, Babylon, Holbrook, and Ronkonkoma, the club had called home up to that point.  They also had tankers made for oil companies in those villages.  I already had the Amityville Farms reefer.  This paint scheme is reminiscent of the NYC Merchants Despatch scheme so these two along with a MTH RK die cast NYC MDT reefer and a Lionel NYC Milk car and one or two other dairy reefers I have will make up a nice little milk train.

IMG_3521IMG_3522

Several years ago I picked up some K-Line Western Pacific feather boxcars.  A blue, purple and yellow, also the Girls Train pink feather on white.  I added a Weaver orange boxcar with the black feather.  These two K-Line cars popped up on eBay so all these years later I've added the green and the red.

IMG_3523IMG_3525

Next up I needed some parts from our friends at Trainz.  Those parts are the little package on the right in the last picture buying those parts led to buying some other items on my wish list.  First this K-Line New York and Atlantic ballast car.  I was never a big ore car guy, I thought they were so small as compared to other rolling stock that price for ore cars should have been significantly less than they usually were.  Until recently I only had five, three K-Line NYC that made it home from a train show for the princely cost of $5 each, a K-line Great Northern and a Lionel B&LE that to my dismay doesn't quite measure up to the K-Line cars.  The NYC cars have been re-badged as Kennecott Copper Corp. to go with my KCC MP15.  Well a visit back to Long Island back in May found me in Nassau Hobby with @RSJB18.  When Bob left me unattended because he had to return to work I bought a custom run MTH Great South Bay reefer and some custom run Lionel ore cars decorated for the Long Island Railroad and New York City Transit posted here previously.  Well those three ore cars looked real nice behind my LIRR Beep.  EBay searches yielded two more K-Line Long Island Railroad Ballast cars also posted previously. Trainz had this NY&A ballast car.  NY&A took over freight operations from the LIRR back in the 90s so this guy will fit right in.

IMG_3528IMG_3529

I couldn't pass up this Easy Streets van for the price.

IMG_3530IMG_3532

Now I have a coach to pull behind my K-Line F unit.

IMG_3534

These K-Line horses are destined to become Clydesdales and the little bag contains the parts that started it all.  There's also a Revell Model kit of an A-10 Thunderbolt II, built  Fairchild Republic in Farmingdale, NY, near Massapequa where I lived for 30 years, and based at Myrtle Beach Air Force base near where I live now so I think it deserves a spot on the layout, even if only periodically.

My first OGR post in weeks! I've been traveling here and there and everywhere! When I came home my neighbor was kind enough to collect my deliveries, and this is one of them. A little Christmas in July sale from Lionel and addition to my semi scale Polar Express Xmas train. I couldn't resist the Hot Chocolate thermos car to keep the hot coco car supplied for the ride to the North Pole! Wow, it's based on the die cast Hot Metal car and it glows a chocolate, or rather orange hue. It's pretty heavy, so it will most likely have to go towards the front of my Polar Express consist. Here's some photos.

The red hot coco!!! Ready to pump to the Polar Express Hot Chocolate car!

You'll have to wait until the Holidays to see it in action in a video. Ho Ho Ho!

Well my news today is that I received my brand new, Menards Pennsy F-3 AA locomotive late yesterday and put her on the track for the first time today.  This is my first "remote control" locomotive with electronic control, voice, horn, bell, etc.  It is amazing for an old "transformer guy".  The locomotive runs both fast or slow depending on how I set it on the remote and does NOT change speeds.  I can set the speed on the remote, put it down,  and walk around the layout observing the train, never touch the throttle.  She keeps an absolutely steady speed.  The horn and bell work reliably everywhere and the talk is neat and understandable.  Now, I know what all you digital control guys are so happy about.  The difference is amazing.  Smooth, steady, slow it all works.

Here she is pulling some Amtrak stuff.  I have PRR tuscan heavyweight pass cars in storage and will have to break them out.  That or I will use my Lionel Aluminum cars that just say Lionel Lines.  Not sure yet which will look better.  Maybe I will just have to buy some tuscan streamlined cars...(good idea !).

Well, wish me luck as I learn how to get the best out of all this new technology.

Dave, thanks for posting that!

Some items I forgot to include in my Spree photos last week.IMG_3517

Some 3D printed steps to access the cafeteria car, the bunk car and the tool car and some line side cabinets.  The steps are a little low for car access so I may add two more steps to each to get close enough.  I think some 1/8th inch plywood will make good stairs so two layers should work out.

I mentioned this Model kit from Trainz but didn't post a picture.  So here it is.

Oh my, @Don McErlean, Don, It’s Celebration Time, you’ve entered the world of high tech, running your new train with a hand held remote, and you purchased a beautiful diesel, Congratulations…. Now, we need to get you into TMCC/Legacy. No hurry. I think Menards will be a real contender for our dollars as time goes forward, they make a great line of accessories, track, villages, all realistic and fun to see.
I recently picked up my BTO order, the Legacy S-2 US ARMY diesel. It looks like everyone is adding nice pieces to their empires. Happy Railroading Everyone IMG_1669IMG_1668IMG_1667IMG_1665IMG_1688

Very Nice and a great way to salute our finest

@Genemed , @coach joe . @leapinlarry -  Thanks guys for your kind words concerning my "introduction" to the world of remote control digital trains!  I appreciate the support.  Larry, I don't know when I will get to TMCC / Legacy as I remember being down in your layout room wondering how on Earth you controlled such an empire, but maybe I will manage to bridge the knowledge gap some day.  Right now I feel really good about learning how to use my ONE remote!

Best Wishes everyone.

Don

Oh, I've been quiet of late in this thread. Possibly due to late-stage games of Tetris needed to locate places to park new items after all that MTH warehouse sample stuff

I'm actually typing this in at 2AM in Notepad so I can just copy-paste into this post during daylight as I'd like it to appear when folks are awake to actually notice it

So, I know...I've said on at least two occasions that I've amassed enough of those pesky Lima European cars. I still can't help occasionally plugging "Lima O scale" or "Lima O gauge" into the search bar on Ebay. Lima 'O' stuff isn't hard to find on Ebay. Lima 'O' items that aren't located in the UK or thereabouts? Those don't show up all that often. The prime reason I don't consider those is because of shipping costs -- schlepping one coach from the UK to the Eastern Seaboard is usually north of $40, and I've seen it well in excess of $50. So I don't bother with those listings.

One day a week or so ago I'm idly peeking at Ebay and I plug in the aforementioned search term and some new entries pop up among the others I've seen over and over again. Four new Lima UIC coaches with original boxes, and all four listings were from the same seller. What they were all missing was that little "from United Kingdom". They were all one-week auctions ending on a Saturday, so I put them on watch. I fought the urge to throw in a starting bid, reasoning that the most likely buyers were themselves overseas (i.e. Europe) and like me, the across-the-pond shipping would have looked rather daunting considering that examples were readily available in the UK, presumably at a much more reasonable shipping cost, so I had time to think it over.

The cars made it through the first week with no bids, and I re-watched them when they were automatically re-listed. I messaged the seller asking if combined shipping was available since it wasn't mentioned in the listings and got a positive reply. Still, I didn't make a move to put in a bid. I was still thinking about it when the third re-listing rolled around and I noticed the price had dropped by $10 a car. Okay, that got my attention. Still not competitive for an overseas buyer, but a quick bit of math told me getting all four was a decent deal, and on morning the last day of the auction I put in starting bids on all four cars and won all four uncontested. Shipping was very fast and hit the local post office in Omaha, NE the same day. And there it sat. I was wondering if USPS was having some kind of data problem since the item appeared to sit in the PO for almost four days, but the arrival date didn't change. One day before stated arrival it suddenly jumped to the New York distribution center, and arrived exactly on-time. A look at the shipping labels indicated that this package went from Omaha to Newark by air. 'Magine that, they traveled in style...or at least in the belly of an airliner. Probably.

And now a look at the cars. As usual descriptions appear below the photos they reference:

Lima 6612 [DB)
Lima #6612. A UIC coach decorated for Deutsche Bahn. A typed sticker taped to the underframe by a previous owner states it is a "German 1st-class" (coach), and a possible purchase date of 12/06/1975. The condition of the boxes certainly suggests the car could be that old.

Lima 6610 [DB)
Lima #6610. UIC coach of Deutsche Bahn. Kinda like the color scheme on this one, but I don't know the significance of it (if any) differing from the usual red/white. There's a typed label Scotch-taped to one of the underbody equipment housings stating "1st Class German Coach". No purchase date appears on this one. Maybe it was bought the same day as the previous one?

Lima 6794 [SNCF)
Lima #6794. UIC coach, this time for France's SNCF. A taped-on typewritten label calls this one a "A9 UIC French Coach for International trains". Again, no date is shown, and the format of each of these stickers is different, so maybe the original owner bought them at different times?

Lima 6606 [SNCF Grill Express)
Lima #6606. A UIC dining car for SNCF, marked "GrilExpress". A Google search for the name suggests the proper name has the correct spelling of "Grill", but there is little info pertaining to this particular service in real life (or maybe all the info is in French) and all the examples in other scales omit the last 'l'. Of note is the different window arrangement on this car, and the dining-car layout of the interior seat casting. Was this an entirely different body tool, or just a mold insert to create the half-height windows on one side and completely blanked windows on the opposite side of that area on the car (a kitchen maybe?) By the way, I found, by way of another Ebay listing, that these coaches, like the MPC Madison cars, make the roof and windows as part of the same casting, so two things had to be modified to produce this version of the coach. There is one other variant of Lima's UIC carbody with a baggage door at one end, and a dining car with a pantograph for powering the car independent of the rest of the train.

So as it stands, I have eight UK Mark 1 coaches, and now nine UIC coaches. I think that's an even enough pair of consists

(Reminder to myself: these photos break if this post is quoted or edited. Still don't know why)

Nice. I bought a pin vice kit on the Big A recently. Good selection of drills but the vice leaves a lot to be desired. Interchangeable collet is nice.

As l want a variety of period "O" scale vehicles, l just got in a kit, not assembled, so no photo, of a 1937 Studebaker cab over "grain" truck (sugar beets here) , also offered by Sylvan, Canadian kit builder, are REA box trucks, and tractor cabs. I am thrilled to get a different make than one, and drool over their HO vehicle offerings.  This appears to be 1/48, as stated, so may need to be kept at a distance from 1/48.

Well two or three weeks ago Scott posted his new find!

Well I am not really looking to expand so not  paying attention to latest catalogs!   But when I saw his find had to have one .  I was born , raised , and matured in Youngstown, OHIO.   Only second to Pittsburgh in steel production!

So when I saw this  Polar Express "Hot Chocolate Thermos Car"  made from a shortened Hot Metal Car just had to have it!.

Sylvan is great, but one of the reasons I went to O scale, is because O scale vehicles take more room that HO scale and I couldn't get enough HO scale Vehicles to fill the places I wanted for them

The Divco, is one I avoided at all costs.  learned to Drive in one of those on  my Dad's retail milk route.  Stand up, no seat no door stick shift. Couldn't wait to take over his 56 Buick.  I must confess 1/87 automobiles was a second hobby.  There were four different '63 Rivera's on the market and not one of them was in scale. They were another item that I could have in miniature.  Buying a classic auto was like buying a real f7.

I saw these yesterday and couldn’t resist. I picked up both AA powered units. The dark green and orange are so cool. Very excited that these will be my first New Haven engines in my collection.

Does anyone know what kinds of passenger trains these pulled or freight? I know Atlas is making some New Haven heavyweights not sure if those would go with these beauties? IMG_8166

Like many of you, I have different reasons for buying trains. Among them are, the voices told me to get it, nostalgia, club related; or The, Joe McDoakes syndrome. This was a different scenario. When @Donnie Kennedy posted this PRR set F/S, and I was looking out of curiosity, the name Caleb Strong jumped out at me. There was a family connection there. I looked up who Caleb Strong was; and I found information that he was at one time the governor of Massachusetts. When I was reading about him, I found his wife’s name was Sarah. Again a connection. Not wanting to let this go; because I have already started my Great grandson on Brio. I thought that this would be a nice set for him to have. So here it is. IMG_2823

I've got a base and Cab1 that i had hooked up for a very short period of time before the 8x8 layout came down many years ago  As I get more engines serviced I may have to try it again for my full features of my TMCC engines.  With a 4x8 and even if I extend a little I won't really be walking around the layout.

Well,I finally went commando..I mean command control. Found a nice deal on a base\cab1,some power masters and fused connectors. So glad I did it. Having full control of TMCC features is awesome. And it's nice to run my conventionals thru the remote.

Donnie;

Congrats on finally leaving the dark side and emerging into the LIGHT. Can a Base3 be far behind???

Hey Deuce,  that's a really nice Alco PA set you have there. I have one too and your's is actually the only other one I've seen in all these years!  Rare - I don't know, but handsome. MTH has a Premiere set and 3rd Rail made some a few years back but Lionel hasn't redone these in Legacy

I made the same leap a few years ago Donnie. Never looking back and I still wonder why I waited so long.

Enjoy!

Well, it looks like I gone done fallen off the wagon… again…

After several months of harsh, difficult, self imposed discipline, I ventured a look at Mr. Muffin’s August Auction. I mean really… there’s no harm in just looking, right??? And what do I find on the very first page??? The SoundStation Diner Car I needed to complete my Dreyfuss 20th Century Limited from 2003. Fortunately, I was the only bidder, so…

IMG_6976

And then, this offering from LOTS showed up in the mail. I completely forgot I had ordered it. I’ve always liked the CP beaver logo.

IMG_6973

Then, after my stop at Steamtown, I visited my local bad influence of choice (aka Grzyboski’s), and, unbeknownst to me, a couple of items followed me home. First, a pair of VERY detailed reefers from Atlas - not quite from my corner of Pennsylvania, but still in the state!!!

IMG_2715

And finally, two more Map Cylindrical Hoppers from MTH. The Illinois Central is I interesting in that it doesn’t show the entire IC, but just the route of the City of New Orleans (and I noticed that MTH will be issuing one later this year for the NY Central ESE - have to keep an eye out for that one).

You are never going To get your 1 month button from Trains Anonymous.

Just when I thought I was done buying engines, this one popped up on an auction site and oops I won the bid.  This is a 3RD Rail GE C44 9W.  This came with the original owner's paperwork. Oddly no dates anywhere.  Does anyone know if this has a battery inside?  My 3RD Rail M10000 had one (a simple 9v) buried inside with no mention of it being there, so I suspect there might be one. Lots of screws to remove to check - so I would like to avoid doing so if there is no battery.

Wow, this is a nicely done engine. Hats off to Scott and team for this model.  (EMU cables are still in the package and never applied.  Also anyone have a suggestion for a scale coupler for the front end of this. Non-operating is fine.)

Being dragged around behind The Wagon really doesn't constitute "Being On The Wagon" so I'm not sure if you actually fell off.  I should put my stones back in my pocket before I cast them in your direction.  I've just received a medium box, a small box, and two padded envelopes, more on those tomorrow.  However with the items shown here I'm sure your digressions will be overlooked.  At least here at The Beach!

Nice dining car, at first I thought it was a Weaver like one I bought a while back.  I do need to find a Weaver @20th Century Limited observation car.

The Beaver is truly a nice logo.

The cylindrical map hoppers need to get posted in the thread about Map Cars.  I'll have to keep m eye open for that ESE hopper.

OK so I have lost My Mind and my wife wants me to join a Group for Train Auction Addiction.

I bought the following (2) sample models MTH 263T and (2) MTH 260T.

Now what do i do? do i rebuild them for my many trains on the bench or do i keep them as is? or do i upgrade some old 260E to PS-2/3 and try and make them work as Modern Trains ?

Oh, wow, eureka!  I hit the mother lode!   Not only did l find that new Lionel Colorado and Southern #641 2-8-0 with the plow this morning, after belatedly discovering its existence, l went into the Bay and found a brass Q coach caboose to go with it that l had never seen in brass before (have had a kit for wooden model to build forever).  Hog heaven!

How about a photo for us addicts

So when Paul fell off the wagon he landed on me.  Remember; a big box, a small box and 2 padded envelopes?  Well here they are.

IMG_3715

Big box, the three K-Line LIRR passenger from the Greenport Scoot set.  I lived on Lawn Guy Land for 30 years without modelling the LIRR.  I had a few club cars and this K-Line LIRR F-Unit.  I bought the F-Unit from Island Trains many years ago when I was looking to expand my TMCC roster, even though I had already dismantled my layout.  At the time TMCC was adding a $150 premium over the price the same engine without TMCC so when Island Trains had this advertised for $164.99 I bought with every intention of re-painting it.  Well now I guess I won't have to repaint it.IMG_3717

The smaller box,  GP7/9 roof fans and details.  The roof fans are will be used to make the battery boxes of some LED Christmas lights look more like roof top air handling units and air conditioners. IMG_3718

Padded envelope #1 another set of track side electrical cabinets.IMG_3719

Padded envelope #2, 7 picnic tables for use around the layout.IMG_3720

And I must thank you, Joe, for cushioning my fall (you and your padded envelopes!!!). I really like your Scoot - a nice colorful, compact consist. And I love that it represents an actual real-life train. I created one too, but my version has 21” cars!!!

Glad it's your problem

I've been trying to track down a Weaver NYC 20th Century Limited aluminum observation car to complete my @20th Century Limited - Advance Section with no luck.  This Williams Century Limited Observation car popped up on the Bay for a ridiculous low price and even though it's not an exact match the aluminum extrusions appear to be the same so it's a good starting point.  Some satin black on the roof, some pin stripe tape for the blue and white stripes and I may have an acceptable NEW YORK CENTRAL decal to replace the Williams font.

IMG_3759IMG_3760

I notice the New York Central and Century are not decals but appear to be a gray printed sticker strip that run the length of the car.  HAs anyone ever removed one of these strips from a Williams aluminum car?  I would believe the aluminum underneath the sticker is painted gray like the rest of the body.  Another one heads to the work bench.  Pretty soon there'll be no layout for all the projects strewn across it.

It really is a special place. I have to caution you against going down this rabbit hole though . Trying to find these train items is a heartbreaking endeavor. When I bought this Coach at auction, there was a set of two freight cars that went for nearly $900.

Decided that you can never have too many steam engines. And being a Pennsylvania resident for nearly 30 years, the new Lionel M1 was calling my name!!! It looks like Lionel did a nice job on this one. Very nice detail, paint job looks good, and great sound.

And now, a question for the more detail oriented among us… can anyone tell me what the EE and EA on either side of the coupler stand for???

OH man I want one. Big operating engine. Enjoy

Well, Bob, I have seen several forum sponsors advertising them as in stock

I’d classify the M1 as a medium engine. Mine has the 6-wheel tender and is about 27” long and there is some with a shorter 4-wheel tender.

Is this a "J" ?

No… it’s the new M1. The Pennsy J1’s from a couple of years ago were about 30”

Demons??? I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about, Bob. If you are referring to the varied voices in my head, they are both good friends and esteemed colleagues who sublet space on the long term plan. If you’d like them to visit you, just let me know… I have extras and they enjoy travel

Yes and the EE designates Eastern Pennsylvania Division. You can find the whole list here.

Thanks, Bob. Actually, after he told me what the abbreviations stood for above, Tom @PRR8976 sent me an email with that link. I’m going to have to see if any of my other Pennsy steam power have marks.

Paul that is a wonderful looking engine! It should look great on nice big curves!

You know you and Bob have one wondering if Mrs. RSJB18 and Mrs. Apples55 ever get the urge to talk on the phone? LOL

Thanks, Mike. I have O-72 and O-84 curves, so it should look great. Since the M1’s were apparently for passenger service, I’ll have to pull out some of my Pennsy varnish to run with the M1.

As for “Mrs. Apples55”, that train left the station a long time ago. Nowadays, my train budget is strictly between me, God, and my bank… not that I would ever recommend divorce to anyone

Here's the latest from our friends over at Trainz.com.  Over the years I've picked up a number of the K-Line, WP Feather box cars.  I always thought I'd mix them in other trains, especially my UP1996 SP Heritage SD90, by Williams.  Well a recent purchase of two more Feather boxcars had me review my WP and SP rolling stock.  My reaction, instead of "We're gonna need a bigger boat!", "I'm gonna need another train!" and the search was on for a WP engine to proudly pull those feathers around the layout.  It became apparent rather quickly that a Silver Engine with an Orange stripe pulling a string of silver box cars would look as exciting as a black engine pulling a string of oxide red box cars.  Ah thank goodness for Heritage paint schemes.  I remember how exciting these schemes were when they first hit the market.  Even though I wasn't a UP or western road kinda guy they were good looking.  I had to have one but which?  The SP won out over the WP and the Rio Grande.  So now that I needed a WP engine the heritage scheme is what I was looking for.  I found a number of the Lionel and MTH versions for sale but I tend to stay in the shallow end of the pool so I was on the hunt for a Williams.  I found one in the Private Car over at Trainz.  Not having the free drink wrist band I would have to wait until the cash bar opened up, which just happened to coincide with the last day of 10% discount.

IMG_3767

It just so happened that Trainz also had a Lionel caboose dressed alike so it went in the cart too.IMG_3768IMG_3769

It looks like some over zealous switcher crew backed a train into this caboose ar a high rate of speed causing a derailment and some damage to hand rails and the roof walk.  Well like I said in the past, every train item I own needs to be on the workbench.

Not pictured but part of this buy, a K-line streamliner RPO interior and a Lionel 20TH Century Limited "drum head" for two other projects being planned.

Only driven to Church on the weekend by a little old lady......

You're gonna need a bigger bench soon Joe.

Bob

I've been keeping the voices in my head quiet for the most part but I have been lurking around the usual haunts.
Been looking for a steam switcher for a while that won't require me to remortgage the house, from any of the roads that I run, and I finally found one on Trainz site. Perfect timing with the 10% discount sale last week too!

MTH New York Central USRA 0-6-0 with PS2-5v. It needs to be serviced and I'll install a BCR before I apply power. The engine is in good condition with just a few scratches. I hope to get it running tonight.

I know the NYC was a conglomerate of other railroads but I can't find what line CR & IRR is. I'm sure I'll get an answer in 3....2....1......

From the web:

FORMERLY New York Central Railroad (Chicago River & Indiana Railroad)

Wow, Beautiful buys guys, and for the last few months I’ve been helping friends liquidate their loved ones trains. This little steamer was purchased during that time and Pat, CEO at Harmonyards put this little steamer in great running condition. It’s a Lionel Legacy Western Maryland #6 Shay, and I love it. @RSJB18, Bob, that’s a beautiful 0-6-0 Steamer and looks great on your layout. Happy Railroading Everyone IMG_1951IMG_1959IMG_1957IMG_1959

Hate to be looking in the horses mouth, but could we have more of that shay, please

My most recent purchase is a pair of New Haven Railroad Alco PA diesel locomotives – road numbers #0767 and #0770 (MTH 20-21889-1 and 20-21890-1, PS3) – in the railroad’s 1948 orange and dark green paint scheme with silver-gray pinstripes. They are a custom run by forum sponsor MrMuffin’s Trains – shown on my 12’-by-8’ layout

These items are unremarkable, in the sense of rarity or value, but I’ve been trying to obtain one or the other of the pair for quite a while. To my surprise, both showed up on eBay, the same day, and both had “make an offer” option. I went kinda lowball on both, fully expecting to be declined, and I would have to work my way up the price ladder. I only wanted one, and was surprised when both offers were accepted. Only differences I can see are the door, the road numbers, and the sheen of the paint. Both arrived in mint condition, as advertised.IMG_8634IMG_8635

Just got these from forum sponsor Mr. Muffins. They are Atlas O Premier cars. Steve had them on sale in one of his recent email newsletters (if you don’t subscribe, I’d highly recommend doing so - can’t believe how many things he has that you never knew you needed ). They fit perfectly into one of my current themes - railroads that ran through my little corner of NE Pennsylvania. It’s interesting that the boxes refer to the set as Fallen Flags Anthracite Roads “Alternative History”. I love the bright colors and clear, crisp markings. As is typical with Atlas cars, there is plenty of delicate applied detail.
