I second that remark!
Great people on this Great Forum!
Ralph
I with you on this one Nick.
Nothing but good luck when using the forum. I have purchased several items from forum members

I go to the forum first before I go anyplace else to buy or sell trains. Everything I have purchased is just as described. Never a problem. If you are new to the forum all I have to say is "this is a great place to sell or buy trains". There are some super deals but you need to be fast if you want them. They go quick.

Nick I agree with you 100%.

I have purchased from OGR forum members, support and purchase from the sponsors and have been an ongoing subscriber to OGR magazine. I feel an obligation to support those that support this forum; for without them there would be no forum. The info, tech tips, current events, and historical info that I have received here are without equal.
BEEN BUYING AND SELLING ON THIS SITE FOR SOMETIME NOW, ALL WITH GOOD LUCK. HOWEVER IF YOU HAVE TO MOVE SOMETHING NOT SHY ABOUT GOING TO EBAY OR LOCAL SWAP MEETS. THE GREAT THINGS ABOUT THIS SITE ARE
- ITS FREE !!! (THANKS OGR)
- THERE ARE ABOUT 10,000 FORUMITES YOU GET EXPOSURE TO
STEVE
Steve...just thought I would let you know that we now have well over 15,000 Forumites!!
I've bought from forum sponsors and have nothing but good things to say about my experience.
Ebay is the best place to go, in my opinion, for finding hard to get items. I've never had a problem with any purchase nor have I with any sale. It's probably the best place to go to optimize a sale as I have bought items only to turn around and sell them for as much as 3X what I paid for them on eBay.
I'm not partial to anyone or dealer. I'm sure the folks here are very reputable and honest and share a passion for this hobby that probably doesn't exist anywhere but my money goes where my wants are.
Not to mention if you put up a want-ad in the Wanted to Buy section, usually plenty of nice people will be there to answer. I've made quite a few deals, ranging from decent to very good, and have not regretted it.
Nothing but good experiences all round.
I thank the good people of this forum and the great people at OGR.
Well-Please allow me to be the wet blanket in this campout.
I have an issue with the for sale forums.
Each time I find something, someone else already beat me to it! Makes me crazy, however, my wife is totally alright with it...
This is one of the better places to buy trains.
I've bought a lot of trains here, each purchase has been great.
Good deals and great folks are hard to beat.
Nick
Absolutely!
Nick,
I have had very good experiences buying items on the forum board. Trust and goodwill flowed through the transactions and it has been really very satisfactory.I agree with you,
John
I have had nothing but positive experiences! Totally agree with you Nick.
Bob
Yes, Yes
I would estimate that 80% of my collection was obtained from here.
C.Sam,
Like you a large percentage of my rolling stock came from this large family of forum members. Also a great wealth of knowledge from everyone on this forum is appreciated by myself and others.

I agree that, in general, buying on the Buy/Sell board or from Forum sponsors is a good way to buy train supplies. However, it's not guaranteed and let's not oversell it. I bought a bunch of automobiles a while back that were advertised on the Buy/Sell board as 1/43 (0 gauge) and they were in fact 1/32 (much too big). They were also all thrown loosely in a box without any individual wrapping, resulting in a lot of shipping damage. I have also had serious negative experiences with two Forum sponsors, which I will not go into here, just to point out that buying advertising on the Forum is not a guarantee of great customer service. Again, I have generally positive views on Forum advertisers and I buy and sell quite a bit on the board - but caveat emptor still applies.

Good to hear great reports about the buy/sell forum. For me it's EBay only, bigger exposure, better buyer and seller protection.

Pretty good assessment. I've had a few very disappointing transactions buying from Forum members - parts missing, paint damage, etc. - seemed like they were trying to pawn off some defective goods.
In my preferred area of interest every transaction was perfect. Many times a lasting friendship is formed. Over the years I have always wanted to attend York. I had searched for almost seven years for a O-Gauge Lionel freight set from the 1920-1925 era. None could be found on the west coast. A new friend on the forum offered to look at this past York. My new friend called me Saturday morning to tell me that he found every car on my list, plus a gondola I had forgot to put on my list.
One special forumite took part of his time to help another. He did not have to do this act of kindness. This is the type of people we have on the OGR Forum. I will not disclose his name. This special person knows who he is. I would like to give him a special word of thanks, one more time. Thank you! my special friend.
I agree. I also made a few friends as a result of purchases.

What does this have to do with buying from forum members ??
99% percent of my railroad came from either the forum or from forum sponcers. .5% came from a OGR magazine sponsor and the rest came from third party website. My preference is to purchase from a forum sponsor and next from the OGR for sale forum.
One dealer is no longer in the above becuase the owner shut down his business due to personal reasons: Ma and Pa Trains. My to-go store for W/WBB products.
Mega steam is my to-go place for Nada, Oil and that wonderful Marx flavor smokes!
Bought quite a bit from a few forum members and sponsors, but being almost all tin and somewhat eclectic, e-bay gets the bulk of my business. I do try here and other forums first though, especially when selling.
Steve
I have had nothing but great success buying and selling on this forum.I always research the person that I am buying from by using the search feature at the top of the Ogr forum page.As a mater of fact I was just looking for a fast track transition piece for my old 313 Bascule bridge and was lucky enough to receive if from 2 members free. Can't ask for anything more than that.
Bryan
Best place to buy and sell.

I would like to add something to this subject.ANYONE is GOOD when things are good.It is when there is a PROBLEM that you will see the men from the boys.I received a couple of items from forum members that were defective. They paid the return postage and immediately refunded my money. One guy even offered to pay to send an item to the MFG for repairs at zero charge to me.People here care about their reputation more then money.Nick
Perhaps I may have misunderstood the content of this thread but I thought it refers to purchases from the 'for sale' area by ordinary members. The guidelines for posting are:
- This FOR SALE forum is for private individuals only.
- This forum may not be used by hobby shops, dealers or other commercial entities
So I am confused as well why someone is promoting a display system which is clearly a commercial entity, it doesn't matter if they are a member or sponsor, they should adhere to the guidelines.
