What some members say about the buy/sell catagory and here are some comments I have read... I didn't know about it, I don't have the time, I didn't think of looking there.

Gary,
Your purchasing of something has nothing to do with the 'for sale' topic of private individual members surplus equipment, I think you have gone off at a complete tangent and lost the plot of this thread

Gary,
You certainly have lost the plot on this one then, Nick WAS making reference to the 'for sale' section which is about selling items by ordinary members and not sponsors/suppliers and not as you keep pushing about what you purchased.
If you want to let people know what you purchased, then I believe there is another thread still active for that very purpose and I'm sure it will be best posted there and received accordingly.

Yesterday I ordered satin finished O Gauge extruded aluminum shelving with rail end caps.

What does this have to do with buying from forum members ??
To Answer the question from Chris Lonero
What does this have to do with buying from forum member "
At the top of this page you will see a moving banner of adds, one is called:
"O Gauge Video Library" THIS PERSON IS A MEMBER OF THE FORUM
In this library there is a video about how to install Glenn Snyder Display Systems.
This is a MEMBER buying space for the "O Gauge Video Library"
This is why my post is in this thread by rockstars1989

Huh?
What does Eric Siegel (who is one heck of a modeler and videographer - love his videos) have to do with buying and selling on the for sale forum?
Must be time again for someone's prescription refill. I don't think he understands what the purpose of this thread is about.
been burned twice from trades on this forum, no longer will sell or buy anything on here.

The Bruins, Celtics, and Patriots have TANKED...the Red Sox are MIRED in last place...so cut Chris some slack. He is allowed two nasty posts in one day! Not to mention the Birds of Baltimore are running away in the AL East!!!
I've had nothing but good experiences!

Ladies & Gentlemen,
I agree, OGR forum is a great place to buy and sell, in fact I still have a 072 Lionel switch here that I feel guilty about, a gentlemen purchased a couple switches from me, one of the switches was damaged in shipment some how, and I want to replace it for him, and I no longer have his name & address for shipping the switch. People that buy/sell things here on the OGR are usually some of the best people in our hobby.

I have had some really good experiences buying and selling here and have had several horrible experiences. I am not going to limit myself to just buying and selling here. I have been getting better prices selling lately on a few Facebook groups I belong too.
Per advice given previously, if I don't recognize the seller right away I click on the avatar and check their community rank. Lower is better than something like 4587. My experiences have all been good and really good when it comes to scenery. On auction sites a nicely weathered structure will go for at least the original retail price. A while ago I purchased a very nicely weathered MTH train station from Mil Road Paul and he pretty much gave it away.
I have even developed some email friendships along the way.
Only one dud. A new in the box item from a prominent member was delivered broken. Was never really happy with the resolution.
Nothing but positive results buying and selling.
Nothing but good times buying from the Board for me.
I am leery of newcomers but If I wanted the item bad I would email and chat about it.
For the most part, Train people are good people.

Pete,
What gives my friend. As others before you, share your problem. You DO NOT have to name names. There's no reason to trash everyone. Just a thought my friend .
thee absolute hardest to source parts have become available simply by asking, Streamline roofs, heavyweight roofs, interior parts and the ever illusive keil-line PRR specific41NP trucks thanks to all the great folks on this forum, and others for making my passenger car modeling a better experience. I had inquired about some GGD 48 broadway cars and got submarined but all in all a class act. ANYONE GOT A BLUNT END OBSERVATION CAR?, KIT OR OTHERWISE AND NIRVANNA SHALL BE COMPLETE!!!!! thank you Keystone Ed., MWB., AL SMALLS., PRRMAN., and RON DETTMER to name a few!!!!!!!
My experience has been mixed at best. One of the three items was as advertised. The other two required repairs, in one case an extensive repair, before the items would run correctly. Two of the three purchases were made from well known forum members, and were made on that basis. One of those two transactions involved the well known member and the item that required extensive repair. Based on those experiences I have not purchased anythimg here since, and would not be tempted to do so unless it was something offered at a great value.
My experience my be in the minority, judging from this discussion, but I would say that purchases here are still made on a buyer beware basis and people should judge the risk accordingly.
You certainly have one point correct, any purchases made in such a venue are on a buyer beware basis. However, the risk here from established members is far less than you risk on eBay or other similar sites.
If you buy from someone that just joins to sell their stuff, it's probably a lot riskier...
All my experiences have been positive so far. I could say the same for Ebay with a few exceptions, but I have had far more dealings there. Unfortunately if you do enough transactions, you will most likely have a bad experience. The odds are more in your favor on this board though than anywhere else in my opinion.

I guess that makes Rip Track aka Bad order no 1. Sorry I couldn't resist. I have nothing but positive results and made new friends from the Buy/Sell forum.
I have come to restrict my purchases to non operating equipment, and one tends to learn what can be fragile and could easily be damaged in shipment. I once bought a building basically plaster that crumbled on me. The seller probably did not realize that it would be so fragile either. Sometimes you just have to take a chance. For example I bought a really hard to find passenger car. Upon arrival and placement on the track it had a dead short. I took the car apart and found that the factory had the wires crossed. Easy fix and I was still pleased with the transaction.
