My CAB-1 remote direction button is no longer working. I changed the batteries and checked every other button on the remote. Everything works and returns a beep when depressed except this single button. Is this something that can be repaired by the user? I opened up the unit and nothing stands out as easily reached. Suggestions other than buy a legacy system welcome.

This is commonly the rubber key bottom, it loses it's carbon coating. There is a repair kit for the keypad that usually fixes this kind of issue. Just search for KeyPad-Fix and you'll find several sources.

Thanks, one more question, does this fix require disassembly?

Of course. How else are you going to get to the conductive rubber contacts inside the remote?

Well... yes. You have to get to the back side of the rubber keypad.
@necrails posted:Another question please. Purchased keyfix, worked up the courage to open this thing up (go ahead laugh), removed all visible screws but the board doesn't want to lift off. I am hesitant to force anything, see picture. Hints?
You missed a screw... it is hard to see at first
