What is a good replacement battery for the CAB-2? I think they have NiMH now, Seem weak though

I like Panasonic rechargeables for my cab2 but don’t use the legacy charger 🔌. Use a dedicated charger for your batteries. The legacy charger gets to hot. You can also use alkaline batteries if you want to keep buying them

Several of us in my train club use Panasonic Eneloop rechargeable batteries. They hold up well during 4-8 hour run sessions and have a long shelf life. I have also used Tenergy rechargeables with good success.
I use the Tenergy Centura AA batteries in my CAB2's, and the Tenergy Centura AAA ones in my DCS Remotes. They have a low self-discharge and have exhibited good life. I have some that I've been using for six or seven years now.
I charge them in this 12 cell charger, it also does 9V batteries.
