I just received my Cab2 back from Lionel.  I sent it to them because I was getting two red blinks simultaneously.  The repair sheet said that they "replaced the charging PCB, tested range, serial, and charging circuit."

When I put the original batteries back in, I was getting the same sequence of lights...both blinking red at the same time, not alternating.  So I'm guessing that I need new batteries.?

So to those who've come before me, what kind/make of batteries should I get?  I'm sure there are some better than others.

Thank you in advance for your help.

they are aa NiCad batteries!

what I would do is just put some regular aa batteries and just see if it works. also make sure the charging switch is on on the bottom of the base. I bought mine new and actually had to charge the original batteries with a separate charger because they were not originally charging to full charge only had 3 lines instead of 4 if I remember correctly. after that they charged normal! I have been told by asc techs the original batteries are not the best ! p.s. I use the separate charger that will charge 4 aa or aaa batteries and they work great!

if it works on regular batteries I'd say the cab 2 is ok make sure the bottom charging switch is turned on!

Don't put the remote back in the charger with regular batteries and the charging switch turned on. That switch should only be on when using the rechargeable batteries in the remote.  If you continue using the regular batteries, TURN OFF the charging switch.

I know what Alan was saying above, but it sounded as though it could be somewhat misinterpreted. Just trying to clarify a bit here.
