Goofing around just a bit ago in the basement when I needed to head up, I held the Power button on the CAB-2 and the LCD went off but the backlight still was active.
Waited a good 2-3 minutes and nadda. Any thoughts? I ended up removing the batteries and putting the same ones back in a few minutes later to the same result.

seen a few of these. some had success loosing the screw near the button on the back. most had to send it back.
I'd send it back. Although loosening a screw has been mentioned, I'm afraid I would not feel all that comfortable with that solution. Currently, Lionel seems to be addressing problems with the Legacy system as a warranty issue, I'd get it fixed before they change their mind.

I just had one that would not turn on...lit up, and then shut off. I received the loosen screw advice first but sent it back. Fixed and back in about a week plus with the repair as a "failed component on pc board...fixed...tested". This sounded like a board level repair which I thought unlikely. I suspected one of the two tiny SMD push button switches under the CTC button. Wondering if they do that level of repair.
I was told by Lionel to send it to them as warranty repair, so good news. Thanks again all.

If you are a Military Veteran, make sure to ask them about their free shipment for your warranty repairs. Lionel supports the Vets with free shipping of their products under warranty, but you usually have to ask when you talk to Meghan for your RA#.

My Cab2 failed exactly as yours does and I just got it back today. Lionel replaced a failed MOSFET in it under warranty.

Got my remote back yesterday with same failure on a PCB and they replaced the entire remote. Right at a week turnaround, great service from the folks at Lionel!
