Anyone had any luck running both the Cab 3 and LCS apps on an iPad simultaneously? I've tried to do so today, connecting both apps to my Base 3. I know the LCS app was developed for the LCS WiFi module, but the app does recognize and connect to my Base 3.

The LCS app constantly disconnects, but when connected, does throw routes, switches, and toggles track power on and off. The Cab 3 app seams to crash/hang more when both apps are in use.

The LCS app is a really great idea for those of us with lager layouts. It is nice to throw named routes and see the status of switches in real time. I feel for Dave Olsen and his team. Lionel is, primarily, a model train company, but these apps are so useful, when working correctly. I hope the LCS app gets a refresh and adds support for the new Base 3.

About a year ago, I tried doing the iCab and LCS app on newer IPad at the same time.   The issue I had was I could not get the resizing of the LCS app look right to fit the iCab app.   Most of the time I use an older iPad for the LCS app, so usually use the iCab on a iPhone or mobile device.  That is what I am doing now with the CAB3.   I will give this a try on the iPad and see how it looks.

For fun I tried running iCab & Cab3 and had the disconnection behavior you are describing.

I think Cab3/iCab like having true "focus" - perhaps the same reason why Cab3 drops the connection when the screen goes to sleep (annoying btw!). LCS does not seem to care if the screen goes to sleep or even switching apps doesn't seem to upset it - at least while connecting to a Base3.

I may have answered my own question, and it is along the same lines of those that have responded. I think my problem came from trying to use both apps on the same device. When I ran the Cab3 app on my iPhone, and the LCS app on my iPad, things work just fine. I think my issue was loss of focus coupled with the apps coming back into the foreground.

Nothing that having multiple Apple devices can’t fix, LOL.

Thanks  to those that responded.

Dave, I think you have answered my unasked question. I was thinking of split screening my 13" iPad to run Cab 3 and LCS simultaneously. It sounds like that will not work, at least not reliably. After I set up the Base 3, I will keep the dedicated LCS iPads and add a new iPad Mini for the Cab 3 app.

I don’t think either app has been made split screen aware yet. Another feature request for down the line.

Interesting. My experience was that the LCS app lost its connection frequently after I fired up the Cab3 app.

Dave,

I tried using the CAB3 and the LCS on my iPad, but I could not get them to display on the same screen.  The best I could do is have one overlap the other.  They did not want to be side by side or one taking 2/3 and the other taking 1/3 of the screen.  I also lost focus as I switched between them.
