After five years my Cab2 bit the dust. Went to turn it on and the screen blinked then went blank. Tried it again and the same thing. The third time nothing. Tried the reset button on the back and nothing. The batteries are fully charged and I even tried brand new coppertops. Nothing.

Cleaned and fully charged.
Probably broken.
So far. Makes sense since it is very buggy and prone to break. And, is the doorway to operating their main product line Features.
Mine broke last spring (it was about 6 months old). Lionel wanted a receipt included with the RA paperwork, I was guessing to prove it was still under warranty? I suppose it could have also been to prove I had gotten it from an authorized Lionel dealer? Not sure which, but either way they wanted a receipt?
I should have added, that is the only thing I have ever sent in for warranty repair (from any manufacturer), so I have nothing else to compare the experience to. Maybe they all require a receipt?

I think it might be about being the original owner...although broken ones make no sense to encourage the purchase of Legacy products.
rtr12,
cjack is absolutely correct proof of original ownership and Lionel will fix the Legacy unit, if you are a military veteran they even pay for the shipping.

Broke may not have been the best word here as everything still worked control wise. I went to update the 990 with 1.53 (or 1.54, I forget which?) upgrade and the remote went fine, but the base would not update. Lionel tech at my LHS couldn't update it either, he said Lionel had to fix it. I recently upgraded it to 1.6 and all went well, so it is fixed. Hopefully I will never need another RA, but it's good to know that it's only proof of ownership needed and not proof of warranty.
Also, in defense of the modern electronic devices, this is the only item I have had to send in for repair in the 4 years or so back in the hobby. Had a couple other little things wrong, but those were easily repaired right in the basement. Most of my trains are MTH, DCS and PS3 (14 or so), but I have a couple of Legacy engines as well. I don't think this is too bad of a record at all. Never had one DOA right out of the box either (crossing fingers...still got a couple on order ).
