Came across this pipe supporting tape in the plumbing section of my local big box hardware store that I had never seen before.
It's a semi-flexible plastic/vinyl tape with pre-drilled holes about every inch and seems perfect for use as a cable clip for wiring a layout (which I'm in the process of) where you need to run several wires through a clip. You can cut the tape with a scissors to give you whatever size/diameter clip you need and just insert a small screw into the hole at each end of the cut strip; bend into a U shape; and screw each end of the tape into the layout from below and - voila' - instant cable/wire clip. The holes will hold the screws in place so just push them in beforehand which makes mounting a snap.
Probably too large to use for just one wire, but seems to be a good choice for using in conjunction with the small cable clips that you pound in with a hammer.
