You can load any sound file into a PS3 engine as long as the sound file is designed to work with the newer, 3 volt, PS2 board. This would include any sound files that are deisgnated as "Upgrade" sounds files, as well as any sound files that are on an MTH web page for an engine that uses the 3 volt PS2 board.
If you tell us the MTH model number from the web page where you found the sound file, we can tell you if it will work in a PS3 board.
This and a whole lot more is all in “The DCS Companion 3rd Edition!" This book is available from many fine OGR advertisers and forum sponsors, or as an eBook or a printed book at OGR’s web store! |
i have two of them one is a 20-3346-1 3 volt ps2 down load. the other one is for a imperial cab forward ps3 30-1648-1 . the cab forward i have is a premier engine. which one would work .thank you dennischia
Dennis,
Based upon your information, the Premier engine's sound file would be the better choice.
thank you for your help on this mater

I've been a bit curious on the whole sound file topic.
The manual for my Steam upgrade kit states. "It is important to choose the correct file, PS2.0 upgrade file or a Production 3volt PS2.0 sound file." pg. 33
Where as the Diesel manual states. "Note: It is important to remember that only the Proto-Sound 3.0 files can be used to program your Proto-Sound 3.0 upgrade circuit board." pg. 28
Why wouldn't the instructions for both kits be the same? Can anyone clarify this?
Thanks,
Mike
MTH redid the Cab Forward in 2017, vol. 1. There are three to choose from for PS3 files. 20-3709-1, 20-3701-1 and 20-3708-1. I am assuming you are installing a PS3/2 board from a kit. Just make sure you use the "steam upgrade chain file" and not the chain file that comes with the sound file.
I have previously done a 20-3032-1 NKP 765 berk which was a ps1. After upgrade I installed a ps2 production file.
Just completed a 20-2577-1 CN&W SD50. I installed a PS3 sound file.
Currently working on a 3895 premier PS1 Challenger. That why I wanted to clarify which file is best.
Thanks,
Mike
